I've put together some pointers for new people posting in GP. I hope this will reduce the amount of inappropriate posts and encourage new genuine topics.

If you think you have something to contribute to a discussion, please post it in the thread.

If you have something new to say, then start a thread.

Don't start threads on topics that are already being discussed in another topic.

Do use the search function. That's the UBB search here (http://tinyurl.com/yol8f3), not the one at the top of the page that doesn't work.

Do make sure your topic is GP material, but don't be paranoid about fitting the criteria exactly.

Don't post stuff like "global warming is bullshit". You're just making yourself look a retard (read: butthrax). Instead, "I don't think humans are responsible for the increase in global mean temperature because...". Why is this better? Because firstly, it is specific, and secondly, it gives reasons.

You will not be critisised for having an alternative viewpoint. You will, however, be critisised for not listening to logical opposition and simply repeating yourself.

Don't just read one article that says something like "global warming doesn't exist," and post it claiming that it must be gospel truth.

Do be careful to use reliable sources for information. Remember, just because someone says it on the internet, and even if they claim to be a doctor of 1000 sciences, this is still the internet; anyone can put anything on it.

Don't take the piss witlessly. If that's your game, take it to HB.

And if you're going to spam, expect the banhammer (http://tinyurl.com/2sw4y5) to come crashing down on you.

Last of all: Post!! Do it!! http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif)

Thanks. If any of the other regulars wants to add anything, I will edit it in.

There's nothing wrong with initiative, but a little presumptuous perhaps?

Possibly, I know what you're saying, this is really the kind of thing a mod would normally post.

However, I think I've been around here long enough to do so. If the mods disagree, then they can always delete it.

Well, as this thread has been given some temporary breathing space;

Do not publicly humiliate PH in BM (despite the fact it's the appropriate forum), even if she's the one to initiate confrontation. Post verbal-spanking she'll only abuse her mod staus by issuing a ban request, based on fabricated and fictious accounts of spamming in GP and ownership of secondary troll accounts. If you're lucky, Zok will realize she's vexed at being shown to be mentally inadequate and simply ignore her. But don't tempt fate.

*waits for renewed ban request/edit/both*

And no. I'm not fucking joking.

BTW Deus, nice thread.
