I'm pretty pissed that a few years ago my school stopped recycling. Over the last few weeks I've noticed stacks of papers that will get thrown out into the garbage, teachers handing out books lets multiple pages long to every student that they teach, that will ultimately be thrown out into the garbage at school once they've finished marking. This has started to piss me off, so I've decided to start a petition to get the recycling system re-instate. I have about 4 hippies that are willing to get it back, one of which spear-headed a similar idea at her Middle School. I have one problem though, guys. I don't know how many signatures are required in a school of roughly 1700 kids. I tried searching the database of laws and shit for my province, but to no avail.

Any help or ideas totse?
I'm trying to get everything prepared so i can start as soon as possible. Before i start though, i will be going to the guidance councilor see if there are any easier options, but I'm sure I'm not the first, and a bit of elbow grease is required.

Petitions aren't law.
Just because you get 100,000,000 signatures doesn't mean anyone has to give a fuck.
Essentially, you need to get enough signatures to show the governing body (in this case the school) that the majority of people are in favour of your cause.

sorry to say but petitions mean $hit, here in the UK there was an online petition on the prime ministers website to stop road pricing going ahead. 1.7 million people signed it and that was when they stopped the petition so would have gone much higher. The prime minister basially turned around and said 'no your all wrong' and is still continuing with the scheme.
If you want to get it started though go and speak to the principal/Governing bodies/teachers and just state your views and ideas, try and get a few friends to come along with you and support you.

One original letter means five hundred concerned people to a politician.
One form letter is one concerned person.
Five hundred names with addresses is one concerned person to a politician.
Names with no adresses don't mean anything, they are a survey.
That is a typical formula, use it to direct your energy when communicating with the government.

Get parents of the students involved to kick up a stink. If the teachers have the mentality that you're just a bunch of kids he angry parents will shake them up a bit. Teachers usually hate having to deal with parents methinks...always seemed to be the case with mine anyhow. And one of my parents is a high school science teacher.

Two things, one you know that recycling paper is bad for the environment. Second we have more tree's now then we did in the 40's all trees cut for paper and lumber are ones planted for that purpose.
Now tell me if that petition is worth it.

Well thats actually easy all paper trees come from forest farms. They replant everything they cut down. And paper well first your going to have to have to clean the paper remove all ink with chemicals, what are you going to do with all that chemical sludge? Not to mention it cost more then the original materials. Only reason recycling in anyway is profitable is govt substaties.
