View Full Version : Nuclear Plant Island
Here's a question / World Suggestion :
Why not just find a descently sized island, fairly far from major population centers and build a massive amount of nuclear power plants on it..???
Think of it as a nuclear island, complete with a massive storage facility for waste and built tough to withstand tsunamis and the like...
The only major problem I see is finding one of good size and far away, but not so far away that the electrical loss / resistance is too great...
Any Takers...???

Nuclear is safe anyway.

Well obviously the resistance of the wire. Plus its to easily attack. all your eggs in one basket. not to mention if you fortify the island. No way you could fortify the wire transmitting the energy.

Or we could stop fearing nuclear power because there's nothing to be afraid of?

agreed. Everybody should pump as much electricity out of uranium as we can (keep buying it from us canadians of course) Then just sit back and wait for fusion reactors, which the first prototype is beign built right now, to be ready. Then we will have more power, with 0 radioactive waste.
And if anything we could use a small island to store nuclear waste untill we have better space ships. Then we can just send a shitload on a 1 way trip to the sun. Or into deep space for the alien powning lols

Most radioactive waste can have further power extracted from it.
Burying it in the ground is fairly safe, if the right spot is picked.
Politicians ignored the geologists when building the Yucca mountain facility. It's useless because of a fault that runs through it. The politicians still want to bury the waste there, where it can contaminate the ground water.
Nuclear power is safe, if the plant is built correctly. Nuclear plants only have a lifespan of 20-30 years. Someone should do something about that.

Fine, we will send it via microwaves; considering resistance and protection is such a problem....
Fortification could work, with a navy and airforce base located there...

All you have to do is put it in water and no radiation leaks out. Theres a nuclear plant in toronto I believe that has an olypic size swimming pool inside with all the waste in it. You can walk right next to it at no risk. But if that water level ever dropped a large surounding area would be fucked!
