View Full Version : Why Do People Feel The Need To Reduce Their 'Carbon Footprint'?

Whether or not this fits the forum description - I'm not too sure... I just wanted to make a thread here :D

Anyways, at the moment, in 'developed' countries at least, there is so much influence on reducing our carbon footprints, supposedly to prevent global warming.

I admit, I am not really too clued up about the whole issue, but to me it seems as though this is a scheme designed to make companies and nations appear to be 'friendly to the planet', so they don't have to spend more money in finding real solutions to the problem.

If everyone unrealistically achieves a 50% reduction in their carbon footprints, we are still faced with an ever-growing population, and we are STILL contributing to global warming - just at a slower rate.

So, why bother?... The money and effort going into reducing our footprints should be going towards finding REAL solutions to the problem.

I'd say this is more GP material.

Why bother? The way I see it, there's a lot of hype, but mostly, it's reducing fossil fuel usage. And that's what we need.

If anthropogenic CO2 is the primary driving force behind the abnormal increase in GMST, then reducing the amount of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions, as individuals, is a "real" solution to the problem.
