1080 Poison in NZ

We are one of the only countries in world that still use 1080 pallets by aerial drop to eradicate pests in our native forests.
The target of this drop are mostly possum which were introduced into New Zealand around 140 years ago and destroy native trees.
Unfortunately 1080 also kill native birds and other insect life which are unique to this country.
And when they land in water ways? well you can imagine.
The assholes behind it? "DOC" Department of Conservation.
Department of WTF????
1080 has been banned in nearly every other country.
We were also the last country to stop using DDT in aerial drops. DOC approved.
So what are your thoughts on this issue?

That's dissapointing, I thought NZ was awesome at being green and shit. I'm considering living there as a still-very-Western alternative to England where I am currently. Maybe I should just take the plunge and GTFO, though.

NZ is a nice place! I suppose? just that our government sucks balls at conservation.
She'd rather chase revenue while she's in power than try to remedy long term environmental issues.:mad:

Don't usually browse these forums or give much of a shite about the environment but yeah new zealand is probably the greenest place i've ever been (coming from aus). More vibrant greens etc.

new zealand is cool i live here and it rocks but yea it is a shame that our DOC sucks balls at somethings and rellys heavly on vontleer help
