Hello, I have some old motor oil from a few cars and was wondering how to safely get rid of it. I found out I shouldnt pour it on the ground or in the stream, so I was burning for a while, but that seems pretty dirty. Whats a better way to get rid of it?

call a auto parts store or one the 10 min oil change places.

Some landfills have a used oil collection facility, ask around. Ask the local garages what they do with theres and if you can drop some off to them.

Most any AutoZone or Advance Auto parts store has a collection bin or at the very least can tell you where to drop it off

Yep. I always return the old oil to Autozone.

Burning it is a viable solution as long as you have a proper burner. I.E. one that isnt producing massive amounts of soot and is actually burning cleanly.

Buy the oil in the larger containers, you can dump the old stuff into the empties. It keeps you from needing to make a trip after every oil change.

"DID YOU KNOW: You can use old motor oil to fertilize your lawn."

Take it to a auto store / garage, and they will collect it. If they refuse, leave it there.

For anyone who isn't an born & bred sweet cracker asshole & who doesn't want to poison the soil & water table?

They can look on their City's website about recycling & oil disposal. From the front page in the White ages of my Tele book: City Landfills (garbage dumps) "Accepts certain items that are TOO HARMFUL to be buried in landfills. These items include scrap metal & appliances, rubber tires, car batteries, propane tanks, RESIDENTIAL MOTOR OIL, & filters & household chemicals."

Garbage dumps are often out farly & the inconvenient so my town has designated Fire Halls that accept such as:

* Antifreeze
* Automotive batteries
* Brake and transmission fluid
* Gasoline
* Rust inhibitors/removers
* Solvents
* Used motor oil

Your city will do things their own way, depending on how y'all crackers get down, I yam sure. Now, y'all crackers has yerselves a foine day, y'hear!

Find that ^^^ it's a decent sauce on the fish you eat eh?

Why not save it at home for cooking the fish you eat & as sauce your friends & family can use to enhance the flavor?

I usually just dump it down the nearest storm drain.

Yeah man thats the best way.

Here's how I change my oil;
I go to my local Wal*Mart and park over a storm drain. Take my oil pan plug out then go inside while it drains. I buy my oil, go back out and put my plug in, fill er up and leave the carton on the ground.

I figure fuck it, if anyone bitches it's on Wal*Mart's hand not mine.

My plan: be armed. See a "Bad Disposal of Oil". If appropriate: #1 on their ass with signs/arrows pointing to their crime.

See if it has much effect when done once or twice in diff places & newswired across the world. Very scientific.
