View Full Version : Does Anyone Here Believe Global Warming is Bad/Caused by Humans?

I was wondering if anyone at Totse actually believed that Global Warming A) is bad, b) severley caused by humans, and c) that if humans stopped driving cars/smoking cigarettes we could stop/reverse global warming

I, sadly, used to believe in all that. And then I was informed of obvious things and realized it was a media/al-gore scare.

I learned obvious things such as:
The Northern ice cap was shrinking, but the southern ice cap was indeed growing. (its called balance)
Climate changes have occured forever, we just now have the technology to record world temperatures, and in the small amount of time we have done so, do not notice that the climate is constantly bi-polar.
Humans do add to the warming of the earth by driving cars and smoking cigarettes, but only by less then half of 1 percent.
If humans were to stop these things, the earth would still be warm.
The left’s own computer simulations show that global emission reductions of 60 to 80 percent would be required to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Even greater reductions would be required of the U.S. and other developed countries to make up for rising emissions from Third World countries. The technology simply does not exist to achieve those reductions. Their plans are therefore “all pain and no gain.”
The media told us that global cooling was going to happen in the 80s. That didn't happen and now they reverse their story and it is the SAME THING.
When using analogies like "yo teh earth is like a car when you close teh windows it builds up heat! CO2 emmisions close the earths windows!" people dont realize that in a car if you open the sun roof the heat goes out, but somehow it is also bad for us to open the ozone layer????
There actually is not a scientific consensus on global warming, which contradicts what the media/al-gore tells us.
A 2003 survey of climate scientists (with 530 responding) found only 9.6 percent “strongly agreed” and 25.3 percent “agreed” with the statement “climate change is mostly the result of anthropogenic causes.”
To "stop evil global warming" would give the government much more power then they need. US government + power = devestation.
The amount of money that we would lose to "stopping evil global warming" would literally offset the tax cuts.
"stopping evil global warming" would cost us families $3,372 per year and would destroy 2.4 million jobs. It could also create jobs, but by loosing 2.4mil jobs and gaining back 1 mil isnt a win win.
Enviornmentalist and liberals would like the political, money that congress wants to give them to stop global warming.

There are several several other logical reasonings to this, too.

I feel embarrassed to know that I actually used to believe in this. I know most of totse is full of assholes, but alot of them seem pretty smart. I want to see what you guys have to say.

Global warming is a natural process that is being sped up because of the unnaturally high amounts of greenhouses gases in the atmosphere. It is bad because wildlife can't adapt to the changes in climate fast enough and a lot of things go extinct. Global warmings not that much of a threat to us now but if we lose the rain forests we're probably going to be fucked just because of the air quality.

For a start climate change is a better phrase to use as some areas of the world may not warm up at all.
Was bad? As far as i know the earth's climate is still changing and will always.
And if we stopped driving/smoking(wtf?) of course we couldn't stop change as only a small percent of emmisions are from cars. (Thats if it is Anthropocentric)

The Northern ice cap was shrinking, but the southern ice cap was indeed growing. (its called balance)

Indeed the Arctic ice cap is shrinking but there is some debate over whether the Antarctic ice cap is shrinking, stable or growing. Several climate models have suggested that warming will cause increased precipitation counteracting the warming effect.
It is true that most

Climate changes have occured forever, we just now have the technology to record world temperatures, and in the small amount of time we have done so, do not notice that the climate is constantly bi-polar.
Humans do add to the warming of the earth by driving cars and smoking cigarettes, but only by less then half of 1 percent.
It is true that climate change has been happening since the earth was created, whether we are exaserbating the changes i think is the question

This is the main point, there are no feasable ways to reduce human CO2 (and other greenhouse gas) emmisions by the required amounts to return to stability/reductions.

.....people dont realize that in a car if you open the sun roof the heat goes out, but somehow it is also bad for us to open the ozone layer????
The depletion of the ozone layer has very little to do with climate change - not to say it doesn't play any part-

To stop climate change if it is human caused would take a massive change in the ways fundamentally our way of lives, the economy and our attitudes.
$3372, 2.4 million jobs lost, 1 million gained where do these exact figure come from?
Im sure leaving it and then findout in 20 years that it was our fault would be alot, lot worse and would result in many more jobs and deaths than if we lead the way now.

My overall view is that climate change is happening regardless of us. But, we are accelerating that rate.

http://www.heartland.org/Article.cfm?artId=20549 is where i got the first two numbers, the last one i stated blindly because their is not projected numbers on that and I wanted to give liberals/enviornmentalist a fair chance on that.

You say your overall view is that climate change is happening regardless of us, but we are also accelerating that rate.

My question to you is: is that actually negative?

So not that many people actually believe in GW? Thats really really good to hear :)
