View Full Version : Anything that can be done with pool water?

Occasionally we clean our hot tub by draining it and really scrubbing it to get all the dirt out with the old water, then refilling it (same with the pool when we had one). When draining it, is there anything that can be done with this water? Since it's chlorinated we can't water the grass or any other plants, but it seems so wrong to just let it flow down the street. I just can't think of anything beneficial to do with it since it's chlorinated, but maybe there's just something I'm not thinking of. Any ideas for this would really be appreciated.

Well, what about washing clothes or washing the car? Or washing dishes?

If you have a flush toilet, store it and use it for flushing the toilet.

Forgive my ignorance, but I wonder if it would be okay for salt tolerant plants.

dont add chlorine for a few days prior to draining it. Chlorine evaporates out of the water on its own, fast.

Pour it onto the lawn of an annoying neighbor. ;)

Turn the hot tub upside down and grow mushrooms under it.

pretty sure if you flush it down the toilet it would kill all the good bacteria at the sewerage plant used for natural decomposition. but don't quote me on that. i don't know what the process is when it gets there, maybe they chlorinate it anyway or some such nonsense.

but yeah, like boozehound420 said, chlorine does oxidize(or whatever) reasonably quickly. probably a good idea to find out how long this takes before pouring it on your lawn though... just test it on someone else's.

and my guess is that it would seriously fuck up your salt tolerant plants, but when in doubt, test on someone else's.
