Nothing is good unless you have the taste for the anime.
No anime is considered universally good.
Take Lucky Star for example, tons of people love it, and then others despise it.
Then there's all the fandom for Bleach, Death Note, Naruto, etc.

If you don't want to go through the trouble to find what you like, then don't bother, anime isn't for you.

yet, somehow the guy ends up getting killed :rolleyes: death note actually had a good plot, and wasn't just entertaining for power ranger fans.

You should realy check out Death Note though, its amazing.

I think there is no arguing that DBZ and Death Note are two completely different beasts. Just look at the time difference between the two, and the genres they were trying to hit.
DBZ was an all time great, but now it kind of seems...dull in light of more well managed Anime like Death Note.

These are movies, not series so you won't spend much time watching them.
I notice a lot of people are recommending you Shonen Jump titles. They're not bad... but the fact is they are made for kids which some people always seem to fail to realize. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them very much. My favorite series of all time are two Shonen titles: Hunter X Hunter (Goriest manga this side of Shonen) and One Piece (Deepest Plot ever).
If you're looking for more adult oriented titles, I highly recommend the two movies I mentioned. They are both excellently dubbed in English, I have no complaints.
As for a series, maybe you should try Berserk. Although the anime only covers an arc in the manga, it's still bloodyrific.
A recent series I stumbled upon that I have grown a new found love for is Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. Excellence is all I have to say for it. The second season comes out in a couple months.
That's what I got for recommendations as of now. I have more, but give those ones a try first.

power puff z is the japanesse remake on the power puff girls, i remember listening to the creator of ppg doing an interview on NPR about it like 6 months ago.
they changed the looks of the girls in the jap version so they could dress them up and be able to market the cloths. its probably not the sole reason but it came up as a topic in the interview which leads me to beleive it very well may have been a large one

Whoa, I've never heard of it. I realy havn't even seen the american PPG for years, but I think I'm gonna check out PPG Z for a good laugh.
