So for those of you who've stuck through Cowboy Bebop and Trigun (which is most likely the majority of you) ponder this for a moment.
If Vash and Spike were in the same universe, they're in their final battle, guns pointed at each other's head. You come running in, in that final moment with one bullet in your gun. There's nobody around and neither men were willing to put down their weapons, who do you shoot?
Hypothetically, who would you save? Neither character could make the world a better place. Vash has no control of his angel arm, and could destroy every city around you but has the will to make it a better place while Spike couldn't give less of a shit but alternatively is pretty useless to the world. Then again, he has a higher success rate than Vash.
And no, you can't shoot yourself.
Edit: no, bunny you can't let them kill eachother :mad:

I would merely wait for each to shoot the other at the same time. As they both lay on the ground dieing, I (and the other 150 pokemon plus those crazy hybrids that Mewtwo created) would start to cry. Our tears would revive both heroes and the Anime universe would rejoice.

If his idea of protecting people was to lay inconspicuous, maybe he just didn't use it because he didn't need it. It doesn't really matter because neither could save humanity obviously. Humanity is based on a flaw, called humans.

it would be pointless to shoot at either one. especially with just one bullet.
both are pretty damn good at dodging bullets, and either one would quickly sidestep your attack and end your life in the same millisecond.
you might have a chance with a lot of bullets, but i srsly doubt that.
in this particular situation, spike is my favorite of the two but it's obvious that vash has the upper hand. spike's got quick reflexes, an awesome fighting style, and he's one kalm, kewl motherfucker. vash, on the other hand, has superhuman reflexes, nearly perfect aim, and he's a genetically engineered killing machine.
i don't think that spike rly has a chance.
that being said, i'd shoot at vash. i'm hoping that, in the moment it takes for him to dodge my shot and turn around to shoot me dead, spike might be able to use that opportunity to put four or five bullets into vash's skull.

( i haven't watched trigun in a while) so yeah, if it came down to it i'd get spike's back but roll vash in the end and lift his snazzy ass red coat.

vash = robot with a weapon of mass destruction for his hand.
sure spikes character is better, but vash has the whole "not a loser" and "weapon of mass destruction" thing.
its like fucking comparing Macready from The Thing to John Matrix from commando.
Sure, in the contest Macready is pretty badass, he surived, thinks quick, etc.
But John is a fucking badass killing machine that activly seaks a challange.
We love mac for his personality, but obviously the over the top commando would win. its the same in this situation.

Vash is not annoying, and Mugen albeit cool as fuck still doesn't compare to the depth that Vash contains. The man was a genius, expressed an amount of feeling that you don't really run across with humans. Seeing as how he wasn't human....

Yes, Cowboy Bebop is extremely awesome. From the get go it's a grab you by the nuts kind of show and it doesn't let 'em GO!!!
However, Trigun has a ton of great depth to it that I think is what a lot of people enjoy. The question of humanity, and a lone hero with an unbreakable ideal.

The black and white morality just strikes me as the sort of false, overly simplistic way of looking at the world that children's stories are made of. It's the same reason I like Samurai Champloo a lot more than Rirouni Kenshin (sp?). Of course, I seem to have no trouble accepting space travel and all of the other extreme science fiction in Cowboy Bebop and Trigun...

I'm glad you mentioned Ruroni Kenshin, because look at what a human had to go through to achieve the enlightenment that Vash grasped with one loss.
