1) That's awesome.
2) That's a Fireball, not a FAE. FAE's go all at once, and one that big woulda flattened trees.
3) Still cool. I may have to try it.

It seems that by convention in the general pyro sense FAE refers to a fireball rather then a fuel air detonation that the military would be interested in.

How does that work then? Does it just blow out the sawdust with the compressed air, and its ignited by the flare?

That is very very cool.

Holy slo-mo Batman!

Pretty much yeah, some of the best things in life are simple as hell.

And bigger does mean better sometimes!

So yeah... Shop teacher's room is covered in light saw dust... :D

This is a fucking SIGN FROM GOD!!!! I work in a cabinet warehouse making them and such so theres TONS of fucking sawdust and today i was just thinking WHAT the fuck could I do with it. I knew there had to be some cool kick ass way to use a shit load of saw dust. So hell yea I need to get some good compressed air and a flare or some other bad ass way to ignite and then fuck yea. That was insanely nuts i must do this.

Granulated BP will work just fine, no need to go all out with compressed air.

The flare will still help though.

Yes but theres a problem with that one. I don't have any more BP, not to mention im talking about like a 5gallon bucket of sawdust so it would take a bit of BP. Im thinking though of mixing the saw dust with something to help ignite it such as DBSP, or some small ammount of BP or something. The main thing im going to have trouble with is the compressed air or how im going to get the saw dust up into the air. Ive got a month or so to figure this out because im going active army and won't have this job anymore.

Is say some high flow solenoid or something... If you could enrich the compressed air or dump a bit of extra oxygen at the same time with a disposable cylinder or something... coudl help i suppose... I don't know... I'm thinking about this too...

Chances are that I'd put a bit of BP in with mine near the bottom or something...

I was thinking of this after i did some flour explosions a few weeks ago.

Think potato cannon with a flar at the end, that shoots a small baggie of flour out of it. However, there is a metal bar or something at the end of the barrel that splits open the bag and releases a cloud of flour/powdered sugar/charcoal dust/whatever and then is ignited by the flare when it reaches the proper fuel/air mixture.

would it work?

That there is definatly a good Idea except maybe instead of a bag just wadding and have the saw dust in front of the wadding acting like a sabot round. That way you don't have to fuck around with the metal bar and hoping that the bag will open. Think of like a shotgun effect where the "bullets" catch fire and erupt into a big fireball. But I like the idea of a potatoe gun as the propulsion system.

I thought of that, but reloading will be a bitch, plus all that flour/whatever will need time to settle down. If you used a bag, and put maybe a blade on the inside of the barrel, it would guaranteed get split open because of the insane velocity 40 psi standard potato guns shoot at. Plus, the remaining air would spread it out quickly once the bag does open. Both are cool ideas, though.

Well see im only planning on doing this once, I can't risk getting in trouble really. So one shot one kill. So reloading isn't a problem.

one of the things i used to do with my old combustion cannon was fill coke cans with kerosene or petrol or something along those lines tape the top so it would stop the fuel from leaking then tape a bunch of steel wool to the back light and fluffy like :) when shooting these round the heat from the combustion gun would ignite the steel wool and you would see it glow across the sky but if the roung hit a wall or rock or anything solid it errupts in a big flame :) very cool effect

give it a try some time it is quite fun ... or even just packing your barrel with steel wool lol :D

Make a simple air cannon to do it with. Just use a PVC (pressure rated of course) tank and a sprinkler valve and blowgun. You've got yourself the air, now fill it with sawdust.

I used to take my air cannon and 500ml of diesel full and 150psi with a torch on at the tip of the barrel. I posted the vid before if you guys remember.

id like to see a rocket take advantage of this effect.

was thinking about it and came up with this

two stage PYRO rocket.

first stage-the body of the rocket, just an ordinary rocket engine with a small tube poking out the top, of well, either flash(too quick) or a tube of REALLY compressed BP sprinkled with some flash.

second stage- a cone rocket. just a simple BP cone, wide end with whistle mix, and the point will be a charge of flash. this HAS to atleast burn the rocket mix a good second or two before the flash.

paper cone- a bag of flour/sawdust, wrapped in paper all around in a cone. obviously with a hole in the middle to hold the rocket cone.

combine these in that order.

and youve got a sawdust explosion in air(providing that damn thing gets off the ground of course)

id call "the warhead" if it was a commericially available rocket.

maybe something lighter than sawdust? like crushed up packing peanuts??

just imagine your next fireworks show and a big plume of flame covers the sky. EPIC

Lampare shells are often made for pyro club shoots generally using a liquid fuel, though powdered would be possible... Thing is... With a cannon you get a very long high plume of fire... where as with a shell you get a much less impressive smaller fireball since your fuel is spread out in all directions burning up, instead of just one direction.

BUT... If you made around 6" to 8" cylindrical lampare shell... and had it break much lower than normal... it could be quite nice. Then again I don't think anyone other than myself and psycho_1322 is serious about aerial shells on this board... and cylindrical really isn't my thing :(...

Psycho_1322 might get some big case formers made up via CNC lathe, so... If it happens... expect a vid sometime after August 15th.

i wanna make one using a few 44(55) gallon drums now that ive seen that vid xD
