A Ficus Retusa to be more exact. It really livens up my computer desk, has a faint smell goodness and it's something different, you know. It's not just some stupid plant or flower, you really have to take care of it.
Btw, does anybody know how old it can become? I did a google search but I couldn't find it right away...

Does anybody else have a bonsai?

That's one ugly freaking bonsai, but still, props to you for buying one.

I used to own a beautiful Serrisa foetida, or "Tree of a thousand stars" (shown below), which for a beginner bonsai grower was a bad choice. They are very difficult to keep and it died after about 18 months. :(

As for Ficus lifespan, I couldn't find anything definite on the retusa species (interesting plant, BTW). But the ones planted in Santa Monica are coming up to 50ish, though I can't remember if the bonsai process affects plant longevity?

Meh, I love it all the same, I know it isn't the most gorgeous one, but it's a beginners bonsai. I'll buy a prettier one the next time around. But this is good to start with.

I've had a couple, one that was bought at a bonsai place, it fell and split the trunk right down the middle, and it died.

The other one was just a small pine sapling that I potted myself, and it lived for ages, but I left it at my dad's place when I moved out, and his girlfriend took it to queensland, and ended up giving it to her daughter. I don't know where it is now.
