Alarmist scientists who predicted that the North Pole could be “ice free” this summer as a result of global warming have been embarrassed after it was revealed that Arctic ice has actually grown by around 30 per cent in the year since August 2007.

Back in June, numerous prominent voices in the scientific community expressed fears of a mass melting of the polar ice caps, including David Barber, of the University of Manitoba, who told National Geographic Magazine (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/06/080620-north-pole.html), “We’re actually projecting this year that the North Pole may be free of ice for the first time [in history].”

“This summer’s forecast—and unusual early melting events all around the Arctic—serve as a dire warning of how quickly the polar regions are being affected by climate change,” adds the article.

These GCMs are mathematical dinosaurs. Modern laptops are not only more efficient but they are more understandable. The public no longer have to rely on the edicts of the high priests with their questionable objectives and lack of real world knowledge and experiences. The model-based predictions of the inundation of parts of Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula by rising sea levels are an example.

So I guess the 92% of the lewis glacier that's melted in the past century is just political pseudoscience? And 82% decrease in ice on kilamanjaro, that's just liberal spin? Somehow in the past century alone average surface temperature of the earth has increased by over 1 deg F, but maybe you're right, and the earth isn't getting hotter, the temperature is just increasing. Because calling a global temperature increase something like "global warming" is just negative spin, right? By the way, the ice that reformed still doesn't bring the amount of arctic ice to anywhere close to where it was 20, 30, 40, 100 yrs ago. The only reason so much formed recently is because the record high rates of arctic ice melting leading up to this left larger areas of open water that would refreeze in colder months. If you're gonna say that a larger fluctuation such as this isn't indicative of some change or problem, you're way off base. Besides, with melting ice and warming air, air and sea currents are all fucked up, so who knows what could happen ultimately. But everything, even rapid short term ice growth, is pointing to some larger change.

This quote was lifted from the National Geographic link given by the OP. Perhaps it would serve the OP well to read the entire article and to read the article more comprehnsively before coming to such conclusions as stated. In my own experience it often helps to completely read a journal article, or in this case a magazine article.
