For the last 4 years or so, I have had curly hair.

But when I was younger i had very nice and straight hair.

But now its very curly!

Why did this happen and can I get it back to straight?

Hair often changes texture like that. It's a part of life.
You could straighten it with a straightening iron every single day, or if you can't be arsed you could get it chemically straightened but it's takes hours and costs a fortune. Or you could buy your own chemical hair straightening kit (which is much much cheaper) but I don't think they work as well, and you have to be super careful to follow instructions properly because they're not particularly safe, and it could very well fry your hair and make the texture much much worse. There's also a lot of shampoos on the market that are supposed to relax the hair strand (straighten it) that you could try, but I think they're a bunch of baloney.

I say you learn to love the curls, because curls are rad.

I wonder

if I would shave all my hair off

would it grow back straight?

Probably not. I've had straight haired friends shave their hair off (for cancer fund-raisers and whatnot) and it came back curly. And I'm not sure if it's the same, but my curly haired friend lost her hair to cancer and it's came back even curlier. LOVE THE CURLS!!! But you could always give it a shot, lol.

Or just keep your hair manageably short?

That's what I do. Not because it looks good or anything but because it aesthetically pleases my laziness.

That shit is never messy when it's short.

I've got curly hair, too. Grow it out and dread it.

I have straight hair, wavvy hair and curly hair.. The top and front are all straight, the sides are slightly wavy, and the back is the curly part.

I straighten my hair a lot, and most of my friends know it. Most of them dont really care, but you get the one or two that tell me im a girl or gay or something. Either way I think my hair looks way better straight.

Okay, how about the opposite question; if i have 100% completely straight-flat hair, how can I get it to have some shape/wave/curl/anything?

If your hair is long enough, just tuck it behind your ears after you shower... that's why my hair is wavy :( When I had it shorter, I would just let it dry all hanging n my eyes and it would be straight... now it's grown out a lot and is all wavy on the sides.
