View Full Version : Do you think the internet will ever be regulated?

By that I mean all the content and information that could be found on the internet.

Inspired by a post from Mr. Kitty's thread.

With the internet people are getting informed and educated, and this is empowering. Corrupt politicians now have nowhere to hide, corporate interests are made known to the public, alternative political views are being accepted...etc the social changes brought by the internet are big, and I imagine potentially threatening to the power elite. Therefore, I anticipate that they might do something about it.

What do you think? Is it possible at all to regulate the internet (mostly importantly, the content)? If yes, is there anything we as individuals can do to bypass it?

Thanks.

It already is. Try posting child porn, see what happens. Post a bomb threat on the fbi, see what happens. Make a dissenting view of the current socio-political hierarchy, see what happens.

Inspired by me you mean :P

Yes, it's very possible to regulate the internet, and yes it's inevitable it will be regulated.

Will there be anything you can do to bypass it? As with anything, yes, but it will be illegal.

http://www.somebodythinkofthechildren.com/no-opt-out-from-isp-filtering-two-black-lists-and-you-can-only-opt-out-from-one/

Its already happening here in Australia

Basically PM kevin rudd proposed a government internet censorship bill that everyone could have access to, and said it was a optional thing that you could opt out of.

he lied.

They're having one blacklist you can opt out of (that will include most porn sites and other places thought not suitable for kiddies).

but the other blacklist is mandatory and will block CP and other things considered dangerous to the community, unfortunately this will probably include totse due to the instructions you can find on this site on how to make explosives and drugs etc.

there's a petition online somewhere on the net to try and stop this.

I'm gonna try and find a link for it, I would beg every totse member to at least sign this petition and try and help put a stop to this bullshit.

please sign the petition guys even if you aren't in australia you should at least voice you're concern about it.

I intend on calling my local member and giving them a bollocking over it, even though it seems its already got the go ahead.

I would urge all other australians on here to do the same.

Please.

Yes I do. It will happen in America.

I say this b/c nearly half this country is willing to elect a man who cannot even check his fucking e-mail.

I say it b/c for many misguided fucktard voters out there, abortion is the greatest issue in the universe.

Basically it will be regulated, b/c we are stuck in this country with dumbfucks beyond description, and their children are somehow even more stupid.

New technology causes new laws to be created. Think of the early days of cars....people didn't need drivers licenses and they didn't need to be 16 years old or whatever to get their license. Think of how the FCC censors programming on network and basic cable television. Didn't used to be that way. Or how some jurisdictions are now making it illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving.

So yeah, the internet will probably face some sort of regulation in the future. It's at least going to go to that shit where we pay for so many websites, end of net neutrality or whatever it is.

There will always be an underground internet. Regulation will only make it harder to find and more popular.
