Obviously you have a bias. Shonn Greene is no doubt a force to be reckoned with in the back position, but '08 Heisman? Eh, nahh. For one, it's notoriously biased towards the mvp QBs (which there isn't exactly a shortage of this season.)
You also have to realize Greene, Ringer, and a lot of the other top backs in stats have nearly twice the attempts as others. Since I'm a 'Bama/SEC fan I'll use GA's Moreno and Bama's Glen Coffee for examples. Moreno (1st of 4 in depth) has 1113 yards with an avg of 5.9 a carry and 15 TDs, with only 188 attempts. Coffee (1st of 3 in depth) has 1020 total with an avg of 6.3 a carry and 8 TDs, but only has 162 attempts. Coffee's TDs and attempts are below the others because Alabama utilizes a system that constantly rotates between their workhorses Coffee and Ingram. Also, up until the game in Death Valley, their other back Upchurch would get around the same attempts as the previously stated.
What it all really comes down to is skill. You can not say that Greene is a better back than say, Moreno, no matter what stats say.
Think about it like this: could Greene make some of Moreno's plays? Nah.
Here's the stats for you
                                att. total avg. TD
Javon Ringer 353	1548	4.4	20

Shonn Greene 226	1374	6.1	13

Knowshon Moreno 188	1113	5.9	15
Glen Coffee 162	1020	6.3	8

I never said that Greene would win, but if it is awarded to any running back, which it won't be, it should be him. He is the best running back in college football this year.
As for the stats don't forget that MSU has a game against #8PSU and then has a bye week. Iowa plays a terrible Purdue team and then a Minnesota team that's been imploding for awhile so when it's all said and done I would expect Greene's totals to eclipse Ringer's.
You say it comes down to skill and that he can't make the same plays as Moreno. Well maybe not, but I'm sure Greene has laid out countless defenders that would have put Moreno on the ground. And don't think that Greene is just some tank running over people either because he can fly.

I think you may have missed my point. I'm saying that because of the conference, and the fact that Greene is basically the only majorly active back at Iowa, he has been able to do nearly all the running and just stack on stats. Moreno and Coffee and other backs spread their plays among 2-3 other backs in each game, which causes them to have less attempts which leads to lower numbers. Greene is a good player but aside from the stats he just doesn't really stand out like others. Moreno has his immense athletic ability and natural talent for running the ball, Coffee of Bama is one of the most consistent and complete backs despite sharing the running duties.
You say it comes down to skill and that he can't make the same plays as Moreno. Well maybe not, but I'm sure Greene has laid out countless defenders that would have put Moreno on the ground. And don't think that Greene is just some tank running over people either because he can fly.
Uh, have you actually seen Moreno's games? The man is a sophmore and can break 4 tackles straight up the middle then fly off like a villian and they're all just Christopher Reeve. I never doubted Greene's skill (infact, I even said he was a great back in my first post), but Knowshon surpasses him in all the important traits of a running back: he can find creases and openings, stiff-arm defenders, hurdle would-be defenders, run through players to get those amazing yards after catch and stretch the play like few others could, and he can just flat out stick and juke.

Fuck Knowshon Moreno. I take Greene over him any day for my team. Greene is the best back in college football and it's not even close. Check out Moreno's highlights. He looks like a little kid by comparison and I don't even think anyone's bothered to put together a highlight tape of Coffee. . .

Javon Ringer just ended the season with a 41 yard performance. The Iowa game just started.
Man I'm a little worried. How is Shonn Greene going to go for over 100 if we keep throwing touchdown passes everytime. :)
Minnesota is getting beaten down so bad. This makes it really depressing that we dropped those 4 games. This could have been our year.
That being said Shonn Greene is now the leading rusher in the history of Iowa. He went for over 100 yards every single game this season. He is a lock for first team all big 10 and I don't see how he is not also a lock for 1st team AA. Fuck y'all. Shonn Greene 4 heisman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And a little off topic but Ricky Stanzi is looking fucking good right now. If only we had had out qb situation figured out when the season started.
ROFL 55-0 4th quarter just started.
22 carries 144 yds. Didn't even play the final quarter.

First team all b10, b10 offensive player of the year, front runner for the Doak Walker, and has a high chance of being in New York at the Heisman ceremony. The only answer is that you're stupid. Ding ding ding, we have a winner.
Take the autographed Greene douche out of you. You're obviously blinded by your love for a good back (notice I'm still giving credit where credit is due) in a lackluster conference.
All the good football teams (you know, the ones with difficult schedules) would own Greene with their rush defense and if you honestly think one back (Greene) would be able to run wild against SEC or Big12 d then lay down that crack and join us in reality.
As far as the whole Heisman shit goes, Greene flat out doesn't deserve it with the caliber of other players with their names in the hat. Sorry, but it's true. If there weren't any other playmakers out there getting shit done against tougher opponents, then sure.

Nostradamus, we don't give a fuck about the future.
We are talking right now, before the buckeyes can correct the current downward spiral by buying more 5 rated highschoolers.

Exactly. Another player that has huge talent but has to face better defense so he can't just plow through people like he's up against some h.s. team.
If you want to see a good snowplow of a back, look at Beanie. Man got hurt and still came back to kick ass. If he hadn't got hurt Shonne Greene would be even further from the minds of anyone pondering Hesiman candidates.
As far as Heisman-candidate backs go: Harvin > Moreno > Greene > Beanie > Ringer.

You realize Moreno hasn't done shit this year and absolutely no one is looking at him as a heisman candidate right? Also you realize that Greene is going to win the Doak Walker over Moreno? Shonn Greene was awarded the prestigious Doak Walker tonight. It is given annually to the nations top running back.
As you all know he was not a heisman finalist. The heisman is a complete fucking joke as far as I'm concerned. It's supposed to be the best player in the country. All they did was invite the quarterbacks of the 1,2, and 3 teams respectively.
We will be playing South Carolina in the Outback bowl on New Year's Day, and although I would have preferred a ranked opponent this will be a good chance to showcase SG's skills. SC has a very strong rushing defense having held Georgia's Knowshon Moreno to something like 79 yds on 20 carries. I personally guarantee Greene gets at least 100.
Also now that the season is over it is clear that all you SEC fags have absolutely nothing to talk about. You have Alabama and Florida and that's it. Extremely weak year for the SEC.

Hands down. SEC isn't even second best this year.
Yes on the first, somewhat of a no on the second. SEC has to be at least tied for 2nd. SEC kinda plateaued (which is what caused most of the coaches to step down/get fired) these past few years, but this season the rebuild is starting to shape up due to what Saban did to restore Bama and what Meyer has accomplished in his career at Florida. If Richt and Miles can get back on their shit then SEC will return to what it was in the '90s.
