View Full Version : Radical Environmentalism
Okay, so obviously we don't want to post any incriminating evidence or anything, and I'm not condoning this(this is NOT intended to be a Bad Ideas thread), but do you think that radical environmental terrorism(treespiking, destruction of property, etc.) actually does any good? Have you ever known anyone who has participated in this? Have you? No need to answer the last two questions if you don't want, but I am curious about the first.
Mods, please don't move to BI, I doubt I'd get any serious responses there.

It surely does do some work.
I mean the people chaining themselves to coal fired power stations, media attention does some good.
Radicalism is one way to get results, but im more ethically inclined to work with people to get results - but it depends on what the situation is.

The consequences for radical environmentalism are really high. i know a person who was in prison for 5 years - something to do with burning a chicken farm i think.
i agree with the idea. it really gets peoples attention but it is still just a short term solution

I believe it's considered a form of terrorism. Domestic terrorism?
I don't see how someone can consider themselves crunchy and an environmentalist and use that as a basis to hurt human beings and destroy property and/or lives.
I think extremists acting on behalf of ANY cause only do the cause more harm than good. Terrorism is bad on any level.
Bad publicity is worse than no publicity.

Yes. There are multiple radical environmental groups on domestic terror watch lists.
I'm inclined towards public education concerning environmental protection. I give a damn about the planet and hope we can all get something constructive done concerning the many problems currently faced, however I keep my fingers crossed that radical environmentalists find themselves facing the wrong end of a barrel should they break the law.

Not ONE person has been hurt or killed as a result of environmental activism; the VAST majority of radical environmentalists do follow a non violent (both towards people and other animals) philosophy, I don't see how property destruction can really be equated with violence.
OTOH, many activists themselves have been hurt, both physically and mentally etc, by police ..
Oh, and for those interested; I give you Ecodefense;

Not ONE person has been hurt or killed as a result of environmental activism...
I wonder how many African malaria victims who were not able to benefit from the use of the banned chemical DDT, would agree with that sweeping statement.

Sea Shepherd is getting stuff done and they are sometimes described as 'terrorists'. They sink whaling ships.

Yeah. I only like them because they are mercenaries.
