View Full Version : Coloured Contact Lenses
Are coloured contact lenses bad for your eyes? I've heard a lot of bad shit about them, but I really want green/blue eyes, I would look so hot in them. :p
Currently my eyes are very dark brown (practically black).
Yes, there perfectly safe providing you use them properly. If you already use contacts, you'll know how to take them in and out, but I suggest going to an optician to show you the safe way for putting them in and taking them out. Make sure to get cleaning solution, too, without this, the lenses will become dirty and dry, that's when it damages your eyes. You'll need an up to date eye test from the optician, even if you don't need lenses already. The lenses are made of a harder material than 'normal' lenses so may cause a bit of irritation if your eyes are'nt used to it. Handling and cleaning are VERY important to keep your eyes healthy, I strongly suggest seeing an optician to show you how to use them safely, other than that there totally safe.
That reminds me, I need to look up laser correction surgery.

I'm just curious, what kind of bad shit have you heard about coloured lenses?
I've heard that they can cause blindness both from my parents and from an optometrist (who said he can't prescribe any because they're too harmful), although I just quickly searched Google News and I couldn't find any news articles saying anything bad about prescribed coloured contact lens, just non-prescribed ones.
Thanks for the post Diesel. Just fyi, I got my eyes checked a few months ago and they said my eyes were fine and I don't need glasses/contacts.

You just might come down with a severe case of vanity.
I kid.
Seriously, stop it.

I read a little bit on the dangers, and I think the only thing I can tell you is that you should be very careful if you want to buy them off of the Internet. Some of the sites I've seen that sell them seem very sketchy to me. The risk would be more in you getting scammed than going blind.
Look for an optometrist that can safely hook you up with coloured lenses, mine does, but he makes sure that they're fitted, so they're a lot more expensive to boot.
I actually went through a phase not too long ago where I wanted these too... I found two places that sold them in my town. One was a wierd shop and they cost $60. At the other place they cost about $280, but they said that it includes the cost of the actual contacts, getting them fitted properly, and some other stuff. I would say go with the more expensive ones, and whatever you do don't wear them all the time.

I don't know about the dangers but make sure that the colors suit you. Like blue-colored contact lenses does not look good on Asians.
I wear contact lenses but not the colored ones.
Make sure to properly clean and store them.

Like everyone else said, the danger would either be in getting cheap lenses or lack of cleaning. Personally I would not bother with coloured lenses but then again, I have pretty eyes.

if your eyes are that dark, the color won't show.

i wear contacts.colored.green
as long as you clean them weekly and TRY to wear them only when going out on outings.wearing them all the time can be a pain.and using contacts while on the computer is REALLY annoying.especially in a dark room.

A couple things:
1. It doesn't matter how dark or light your eyes are, colored contacts will make your eyes the color you're going for.
2. You technically have to have a prescription to get purely cosmetic contacts, but this can be avoided by simply buying them online (I've bought a couple pairs from fashion-contactlenses.com and was entirely satisfied each time; also, the shipping's cheap, even when international. And they're very well priced, actually).
3. Most colored contacts are one-size-fits-all and should work for you; if not, you will have to get a pair custom-made by an optometrist as previously suggested.
4. These contacts do NOT make you go blind! My friends and I have been wearing them for years and have never had any problems.
5. Keep in mind that most pairs have a "life expectancy" of a month or so. So choose when to wear an expensive pair wisely
6. And also, it really depends on the person rather than the ethnicity. Some Asians look great in blue contacts :D
(Wow, after reading over this I feel like one of those secret spammers trying to subtly promote fashion-contactlenses...)

no they're not bad but don't use them for more than 30-40 times. i wear circle lenses.. makes ur eyes look big
Just make sure you clean them well or else they'll scratch your eyes to fuck. I don't know what it is about coloured contacts, I assume it's the poor quality but it kinda feels like they dessintegrate the moment they're opened.
