Moving to Germany

I am moving to Berlin in July to go to college. I will be living with a family of 4 ,the first year at this college. I have already met the family,and they seem like they will be generally pretty cool(plus the daughter is kind of hot). Anyways, I've been to Germany once and have been around alot of Germans before. Anyone here lived in Germany? How party friendly is the city of Berlin? Do you think the college will be rather liberal?

And also,anything I should expect thats out of the ordinary from say, american colleges?

Any advice from actual deutschlanders is great too.
