So I just started my summer holidays and I have a bit of extra time on my hands. I was thinking about building something but I lack a focus. I am willing to spend about 100 to 150 dollars and can spend about 3 hours a day on the project.
tl;dr
I need something to do
So GO

Have you considered something else, less physical? Learning a language can be nearly free, learning a programming language is free, you could learn a shitton about electronics for a few bucks. You could buy a cheap instrument and teach yourself that (just please don't play guitar, everyone plays guitar...).

Really? Really? This is fucking DIY. We build boats and stick chainsaw engines on bicycles.

If he didn't want to learn and make some crazy project he would have gone to a different forum.

Ta-daa! That would be a good project for you to do. Or just find some old junk and fix it up.

Oh, here's an idea, go out and buy a few busted pairs of speakers (the type that have to be plugged into a power outlet because they have built-in amplifiers) and rig together a few amplifiers and whatever working speakers you can find, then see how loud you can get your new monstrosity.
