when i look on sites like shroomery and such i see pictures of jars filled all the way w/ the brown rice or grain or whatever they used and I see others filled only like an inch or two. Why is this? Whats the difference?

I'm not sure what you mean.

With BRF you generally fill to about a half inch from the top, then add dry vermiculite as a contamination barrier.

With grain you generally fill the jar 2/3 of the way [or more, basically you need space] to leave space for shaking the grains, and mixing around the mycelium.

What jars have you seen filled like an inch or two with substrate?

Different thing's they're growing/stored in?

Some thing's will be better for certain shrooms, and have an optimum amount that they need.

I thought this thread was about growing mushrooms inside an emptied desktop computer.

Hmm...

Go back to the shroomery and read the cultivtion articles, and the guides and you'll find out what you want to know.

Spawn jars are made in so many different ways depending on what the grower is trying to accomplish. There's always going to be some deviation of spawn volume as the WBS grains do not always expand uniformly in each jar.

I will sometimes prepare jars with an exact number of grains, usually around 10-15. Then I take the colonized grains , place them in vials(one grain/vial), add dH20 and make 10-15 30ml vials of mycelium water, which, let's not kid ourselves, is enough to grow around 400 jars, which could easily yield hundreds of kilos. This is IMO the best way to prepare an LC.

Actually the post was originally a question about pressure cookers but i edited it, thanks google.

I was just about to bust few colonized wbs grains to make few flasks of LC so this caught my attention, do you use JUST distilled water, or do you actually add malt extract, dextrose, honey or other sugars? And how crucial are nutes in LC ? are they optional/essential and do they speed things up?

No. If you have a colonized grain, you already have a fuckload of mycelium. Just drop the grain in distilled water, shake it up, isolate the water(with a syringe) and you've got yourself a mycelium syringe. Technically, it is not a LC, as you aren't really growing anything at this point, but it does have the same intended function as making an LC, which is to knock up more jars with mycelium instead of spores. You don't want nutes b/c you already have fully developed mycelium. The grain of wbs is the only nutes. adding them will only encourage contam growth.

Will mycelium survive long-term storage in water without nutrients? in fridge?

I have a jar that was fully colonized few months ago and its still nice and white but seems to have shriveled up. I want something to keep this strain alive and I was hoping LC would survive longer term storage, but are nutes required for that, or are they there just to grow within LC to make it more "concentrated" with time? because one grain does not seem to be able to support mycelium for very long but then its just my guess.

Tons of nooblets in this thread that can't use the shroomery search feature correctly.

You post the most useless shit yet you never grew mushrooms or even weed. Failed attempts dont count. Quit predending that you know anything about anything. Save your extremely helpful advice. noone cares. fuck off.

I also have another question...

Can you get spores or anything useful outta dries mushrooms to grow more?

this would only be used on a last case scenario, like if one couldnt get wet or anything online.

Calm down little fella. If you did something in the past that was illegal but you don't do it anymore, it's okay to talk about it. As for "failed attempts", it's kind of funny you'd say that considering I have a camera and took many pictures of non-failed attempts.

You're ugly and whiny, and you haven't actually accomplished anything, which is why you don't have pictures. When you finish puberty you may not be so unattractive though, at least.

You can clone dried mushrooms even if they're years old. You can extract spores from them and isolate/germinate them with agar as well. Learn how to use the shroomery search feature.

It isn't hard to use the search feature. Just type what you want to search for and hit enter and it'll start from the forum you're currently in or All forums if you clicked the search forums link from the forum list.

Alright thanks, i thought the only way way w/ spore syringe or a wet shroom.

So something like this would work ?

Probably. I've never tried anything like that but you'd probably have better luck if you disinfect the outside if you're going to rehydrate first. It doesn't necessarily need to be a piece from inside the stem, the whole stem can work, but the inside will be cleanest of course.

I don't remember what they use to disinfect shrooms. But you'll find it if you search.
