It's not even worth it anymore, to the best of my limited knowledge, because the digital shit can't be descrambled. But I'm a n00b, so take my opinion with a pound of salt.

sounds like a Bad Idea, but you can try it here. The best you'll get is basic cable, which really isn't worth it.

Re: cable tv question

okay so swim was tipped by a cable installer, that he could get free basic cable by splitting the cable that went to his modem and sending it to his t.v.

Swim has been doing this for 1-2 years without any problems.

July 12, swim notices that cable isnt working and signal is very fuzzy, so swim thinks nothing of it and thinks it will fix itself in a couple of days. A couple days pass, so swim is concerned, swim traces the wire back to the modem.. nothing wrong, so then back to the box outside:

swim decides to take a look inside:

after looking around for a good 5 mins, swim notices a yellow tag:

and a new piece of hardware (presumably a filter) that looks like this taken off:

used to go here:

closer look at ports:

oh yes and the final thing that is bugging swim ...

swim took off the filter and tag and now has channels back to normal, but is kind of scared of the repercussions of getting caught.

Also, swim is wondering if this so called "audit" only happened to his/her box outside, and is wondering if the company can monitor if bandwith is being used from the television since he/she is only paying for cable internet.

advice greatly appreciated..

Re: cable tv question

i think they installed that filter to anyone who only pays for internet and not only on swims' cable.

BUT, if the cable company gets to know that swim tampered with ther boxes, they will prosecute swim, so i think swim should at least try to camouflage a fake filter on his cable connection.

Re: cable tv question

swim thinks its pretty retarded to pay 30 dollars more a month for them to just remove a filter...

advice?

Swim could just take that filter, get the shit out of it and leave just the cover

Re: cable tv question

Cable companies can monitor where the bandwidth is going and whether swim is watching TV or surfing the net. One does however wonder if they keep tabs on it since swim did this for 2 years.
