New laws to outlaw vitamins
Dear net.heads, please act on and distribute this information wherever
you think it would do the most good.
Your right to buy many dietary supplements is in jeopardy. Act now.

The Nutritional Labeling and Education Act Moratorium will expire
December 31, 1993. Six months after that date, your right to purchase
many dietary supplements and to be informed about them may be
restricted. There are now two new bills introduced by Senator Orin
Hatch (R-UT) in the senate and Congressman Bill Richardson (D-NM) in
the house of representatives that will protect your rights in this
area.
We must support them with an intense write-in and phone-in campaign to
our federal senators and representatives or they will not become law.
The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Acts (S784, the senate
version [The Hatch Bill] and HR1709, the house version [The Richardson
Bill]).
These bills would:
1) Allow substantial health claims for supplements so that you can
make better decisions about how to maintain your health and thereby
cut down on later health care costs.
2) Allow you to remain informed about the latest scientific
information on the potential benefits of dietary supplements.
3) Prohibit supplements from being regulated as drugs, and prohibit
restriction of potencies or combination products.
4) Establish an Office of Dietary Supplements within the National
Institute of Health to coordinate and promote further research on
consumer use of supplements.
To Support S784 and HR1709, write or phone (preferably BOTH) your
senators and congress-persons.
