Released 12/12/92 The iTS Beginner's Handbook Series:

ITSBH01.TXT *iTS Beginner's Handbook*
This elementary textfile will provide the beginning user with some of the
background information and terminology required to use the rest of the iTS
series. In this textfile, emphasis is placed on general knowledge, rather
than a specialized area of operation. Familiaity will be gained in the areas
of 950s, 800s, scanners, hackers, and dangers of operation. The pros and cons
of computer phreaking are discussed, as well as several personal accounts of
success.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE: This file is for beginners who do not know much about 950's

This is the first file for you beginners out there. If you know about 950's
and extenders then I suggest you not read this file. I will introduce you to
the wonderful world of 950's. What are these 950's anyway? 950's are
dialups that companies have for their employees to call. Using 950's one
can call the dialup for the company, enter the code, and then call almost
anywhere. These 950's can be dialed from anywhere. You do not get charged
for calling one. Enough of this nonsense...

"Does anyone have any codes?" This is a typical message seen on many boards
all the time. If you post messages like this you should ask youself why
don't you have any codes. Its probably because either you don't want to hack
them or you don't know how.

Some advantages of hacking a code are
- It will last for a long time if you don't abust it
- If you post it on a board you will be recognized as a contributor
- You won't have to ask "Does anyone have any codes?"

Some disadvantages of hacking a code are
- It is very easy to get caught hacking a code if you are stupid enough
- Your computer is just redialing and you HAVE to wait

I've seen a 950 posted. Now how do I use it?
Well you need to make sure that the extender works from your area. An
extender is the last 4 digits of the number. (i.e. 950-XXXX XXXX is the
extender) One way to find out is to try calling it. A better way is to
ask around. There are probably 2-3 different extenders that work in each
area. Now suppose you got a working code and the extender works from your
area. Then you can begin to dial.

E X A M P L E:

ATDT9500511,,802473,5105551212
?_____? ?____? ?________?
? ? ?
? ? ?- The TARGET or DESTINATION (Where you wanna call)
? ?
? ?- The CODE
?
?- 950 + EXTENDER (In this case the extender is 0511)

This command dials up 950-0511 then enters the code (802473) in and then
calls the target destination (510-555-1212).

"Ok, I think I'm ready to hack my own codes"
If you don't know what extenders work from your AC (Area Code) then find out
before you read this. If you don't know the length of the code then find
out before moving on.

I will discuss how to use a very simple and useful hacked called Code Thief.
There are many other hacking programs (P-hack, etc.) to do this simple task
but I found that Code Thief is easy to use and very configurable.
At this time of writing the latest version is Code Thief 4.0. Run the
program. First change your modem specifications to your desire. Then
choose the option that says "Edit Extender Configurations". Select the
add extender option. Then fill in the information. An example is:

Number : 9500511 Starting Code : N/A
Short Note : Execuline Sequential Increment : N/A
Code Length : 6 Code First : Yes
Code Template : XXXXXX Target Prefix Digit :
Code Delay : 6 Multiple Extender Flag: Yes
Target Delay : 0 Multiple Port Mode : No
Timeout : 15 Ending Hunt Number : N/A
Default Target: 123-456-7890 File For Valid Codes : 0511
Hacking Mode : Random

The code template is used when there is a pattern in the codes. One template
for this extender right now is XXX726. When Code Thief begins hacking it
will only try numbers that end in 726. This increases the chances of getting
a valid code. How do I get templates? Well, one way is to notice a pattern
in recent codes.

Enter as many extenders that work from your AC that you wish to hack. Then
save the extender(s) and return to the main menu. Choose "Begin Hacking".
Choose the method of hacking. I would suggest that you use Single Extender/
Multiple Targets. First of all, if you use the same extender then there is
a greater chance that you will get a code quicker. Also, multiple targets
should be used so that the 950 company does not suspect you are hacking.
You should be able to follow the rest of the instuctions.

Tips
- Do not hack during the night for no one is using the codes during those
hours and it is easy for an employee to notice someone hacking.
- Hacking during the day still isn't as safe as it used to be. Do not hack
over long intervals. Hack for 30 minutes, wait 30, and then hack again.
- Always use Random Mode for hacking. Never use Sequential Mode. This is
common sense.
- Never hack extenders which have ANI (Automatic Number Identification).
With ANI the company is able to find the number where you are hacking from.
Make sure you know what extenders in your AC have ANI.

One you get a code you are set to call wherever you want. Most 950's call
anywhere in the US and Canada. There are some however that call inter-
national. These are very useful for obvious reasons. There is a list of
950 extenders. This list was made in 1990 by Leon Trotsky:

Remember this list is pretty old. The best way to find which extenders work
in your area is to ask around.

By now you should understand 950's and how to hack them using Code Thief.
Hopefully this iTS text file has been of value to you.
