Might be time to cull the bots again

Post by Das Troll » Fri Feb 12, 2021 1:19 am

A user by the name of Lindacatry sent me a PM about something that can solve a captcha. I assume you already know about this but I figured I'd double up to make sure.

Getting rid of the bots that spam dumb shit. NT has a somewhat easy sign up that gets hit by people who want to spam whatever junk.

I pay for a service that checks where the registration attempt comes from against a list of known spam sources (email host, country of origin, et cetera), then monitors the first 10 posts to see if they link drop a lot or shit like that. I honestly don't know how the ones that get by get by.

I've had a few people bitch because it flags Tor, but there's other ways to hide your identity, so who cares...?

Then report it? I can't see PMs or moderate them, nor can the plugin.

Not sure how. I didn't see any way to do that in the PMs.

Exclamation mark in the top right corner of the message. Should be in between and X and quotation marks.

No problem. It's not really obvious what it does. I wasn't even sure until you asked about it, because part of me feels like reporting PMs is grimey, but there's clearly uses.

It comes in waves. Sometimes it will be multiple posts a day with porn bots or something like it. Most of the time it's not so bad. At the time I made this post, it was pretty bad. Recently though it's been pretty chill.

Yeah, it hasn't been so bad ever since I installed CleanTalk, but like yesterday I came here to see about a dozen spam posts.
