Will any of this be saved?

Half Baked is for the lols, irrelevant ponderings, asking stupid questions, licking the proverbial butter, whinging, being a general prat. This is NOT a spam forum. HB adheres to totse-wide rules.

Im talking about how zoklet was sorta saved but its too hard to actually go back and look at anything...
Is NewTotse or NIS being archived?
I am only asking because I like looking back on my threads.

Unlike previous admins I have full intentions on either 1) handing the keys over or 2) releasing a complete archive.

That being said, Jeff did daily forum backups. All of our final moments are preserved on a DL-DVD in some weirdo's storage unit.

If he was smart he would have destroyed them all so the feds didn't have a reason to come after him.

What actually happened to jeff? Does anyone know where that particular location is?

I hated how @totse split into two and then three.

tM was neat though, got me into hacking and programming

Totse was based out of California and as far as I knew, that' where Jeff lived. Jeff or JC.

He got old. I mean, if you think about it he started Totse in '89 meaning he had the money and ability to do so, so he had to have been in his early to late 20's when it first launched, and given the amount of time it was online I would say it's safe to assume he was in some sort of tech related field pertaining to the 80s.

Well, as time went on dial-up BBS wasn't such a popular thing, and web based forums were becoming THE thing, so he was forced to either upgrade or fall in the dust. By 1997 he was still hip with the game enough to do said upgrade, and it sat with UBB for a long time.

Well, the software aged, and though he was able to patch UBB to keep it going for a while, he eventually had to move on from that too because the size of the community caused the heavily modified, extremely inefficient software to kill the server's resources.

That's where the problem started: PHP and SQL were new things to Jeff, and he likely didn't really understand it as well as he should have. A couple years went on, and problems started cropping up he didn't have the time or ability to fix, and the server at that point likely needed a lot of upgrading, so the only viable choice was to step down. He offered the site to Zok, he refused, and the rest is history.
