Trying NA

I have been going to NA for months but I never really tried anything they practice. I quit going 4 weeks ago.
I felt like I had nothing good to share about.
Now that I have a job and money to hang out with other people I meet there I think I will start going to the meeting again.
I am kind of nervous about them asking where I went to.
I sort of just left and never checked in.
I want to see my NA family again.
:)

My biggest problem with NA/AA and the like, is that they have you announce yourself as such:
"Hello my name is ________ and I'm an addict/alcoholic" etc.

My beef is that if you are trying to quit being something, why are you constantly reinforcing that label?
Would it not make more sense to say:
"Hello my name is ________ and I'm an ex-addict/alcoholic" ? Or, Hello my name is ________ and I'm a recovering addict/alcoholic".
If I quit smoking, I don't go around saying that i'm still a smoker.

Society wants to label you, and then get you to constantly label your-self, for your entire life.
I've heard the same old tired ass cop out response, "Its a disease, and you are an addict for life". I say BULLSHIT!
"The Only Constant in The Universe, is Change". Anyone can, and everyone does change. You don't have to be the person that you were yesterday. So find a new label. Reinforce a new identity.

Go to the meetings if they help, but don't let them define you. Only you can do that. I know that you can meet some good people there. And you may miss them, or want to show them how well you are doing. But you can meet some good people at the library also. If you really want to be "aholic", be a totseaholic like me. I wont label you. Unless your an asshole. Then, I will label you an asshole.

I would say that introducing yourself as an addict is forcing them to finally come to terms. I've met so many addicts who just can't admit to being junkies and will never get help because "they don't have a problem."

Because the most common thing people do is assume they got the problem kicked. Like with me, I'm like two years sober but would consider myself an alcoholic based on the fact if I started drinking again it would open the flood gates. I don't have it licked.
