Electrical Gremlins Part 1

Post by Helladamnleet » Thu Aug 08, 2019 6:42 am

So a few weeks ago after having not driven my Passat for a while, I noticed the automatic seatbelts stopped working correctly. No big deal, right? Well, while trying to figure out why the wires started melting in the door..... Shit.

Well, took everything apart, ran out of daylight, and it kind of sat for another week. Just got in it earlier because I need to bring it to work with me today, and just for shits shorted the wires out myself and THE FUCKING SEATBELTS WORKED. Gotta be in the latch then, right? Nope. Hooked it up to the latch and that also works as intended.

I think for now I'm going to either re-insulate the wires, or just run new wires and call it good. I never did find a reason to think anything was wrong with it, and it could easily be the seat belt motor fucking up.

A secret though is I don't even like driving it when I'm thinking about the chick I bought it off of.

UPDATE: Had to take it to work a couple weeks back, and I noticed if the car isn't running the belts worked as intended. Did a little digging and found a relay in the wrong spot (which really shouldn't have had an effect but okay), re-wrapped the wires since they only melted a few inches from the plug, and it's worked fine since. Only spotty thing is the radio, but I just bought a new house with a nice garage that I can start tearing it apart and really get things fixed. Might start a youtube series on it
