Bought some stock

Post by Enigma » Mon Jan 13, 2020 8:56 pm

Figured fuck it, why not. Did some research and what I invested in has an estimated increase that should net me like $100 on the high end, or at least double what I invested on the low end. Maybe I can make a hobby of it and get my net worth up.

I've never been too lucky with stock. Best bet I think would be to get into a TIF (traditional index fund) or something of the like that has compounding interest that doesn't tax. That's what kills you, taxes. People want a dividend based stock, and thats fine, but they don't bother to see how much taxes eat into your profit. Far as I understand, TIFS just reinvest the interest back into the index. For example the S&P 500 has been on a pretty steady increase over the past 10 years.

But that shit bores me and to start a good TIF investment you need about 5 to 10 grand. For the past 15 or so years I've been making pretty good money in crypto. I can't suggest it though because it's so crazy.

Ive been using the Robinhood app on my phone to trade some stocks. I love the app. Now my brother is using it also, and he has become a stock trading junkie. I had to explain a trading plan to him so he would stop looking at his phone all day. Anyway, its a great free app with commission free trades and they give you a free stock after you sign up.

I've tried it before with little luck, but what I'm doing now compared to then makes me realize what a scam what I was doing really was even though it was tied to a real bank. I've spent the last 20 years off and on looking into stocks, and what ones are increasing, and when to buy, et cetera, and I think I'm finally ready to get my feet really wet. You really gotta do your market research, keep an eye on the news, know when to hold em, and know when to fold em. I see Fona stressing out about his stocks he only has 1-3 shares of dropping fractions of a cent not realizing the stock market is very much still a long game.

That's what I'm using too, and yes, it's great. Keeps track of everything right on the home screen, has a custom list you can add things you aren't sure of yet, and has built in checks to make sure you're not doing anything illegal. :fro:

Crypto is just like anything else really. You assign value to a dollar but the dollar is just a piece of cotton blended paper that's no longer attached to the gold standard. The main problem with crypto is how volatile it is and how hackers can steal it easier than they can steal stuff from banks. I'm not saying get into it, I'm just saying I've made a lot of money off of it through investing and mining.

Every time I look at BTC I get mad that I didn't invest the time before. I first found BTC when it was $7/BTC. Seven. Fucking. Dollars. Now it's over $8,000

Think that's bad? I used to mine it when it was easy to mine and then used the BTC to gamble in online casinos. I think I had 2 or 3 BTC and when I saw it top out a few years ago it was 19k. Ole Das would have had close to 40 grand.
