Oil your locks!
Oil your locks!
I was just about ready to drop $80 on a rekey kit for my '98 Sierra when something told me to just try one more time to get the key to work in the lock. Well, this time it turned just a tiiiiny bit so I knew the lock was okay, so I blasted the insides with Liquid Wrench, locked and unlocked it about 30 times, and it works great now. Still need to take apart my driver's door and fix that lock, but even having one is a huuuuge plus.

Re: Oil your locks!
I hear graphite powder also works really well with making locks easier to open. I'd assume that a liquid would work better though.
Re: Oil your locks!
I'm always afraid the graphite will gum up the works, but I've also heard that.

Re: Oil your locks!
It's not really McGyvering anything. I didn't modify anything, I just oiled the lock so the pins slid easier. Pretty standard maintenance.
