OTF double action knife review

Post by Das Troll » Sun Mar 14, 2021 1:29 pm

I've been interested with double action OTF knives for a while and was eyeballing the Benchmade Autocrat:

The problem with this is the price tag. This lead me down the rabbit hole of reading about OTF (out the front) knives since my state recently changed it's knife laws to be more favorable to the person carrying. So then I moved onto the microtech ultratech:

Much more reasonable in price but still very expensive. Not something I want to drop hundreds of dollars on to be honest. I'll spend hundreds of dollars on a gun, but a knife is something I'm not really willing to dump that sort of cash on it. But then a guy I know suggested this with a good review.

Perfect price point for me, so I decided to get it. It gets here Tuesday. More on it then.

You just reminded me that this kid I work with was asking about New Totse, and he could probably get some of his freshly 20 friends to join too.

He's big into knives and gaming so might not be a bad addition.

I like that autocrat.

I got the knife today actually, it came early. It's shave sharp right out of the box. My only gripe is the fact that the paint is coming off the the handle where the slide button is just a little bit. The rest of the knife is great. There's a really rough strip of metal that's basically sand paper on the side that helps you deploy the knife from your pocket. The action is super quick both on blade deployment and blade retraction. I tried to deploy it through a piece of paper because I heard some people say that they were afraid of having it in their pocket and the blade deploying. It barely made a tiny hole in the paper. I assume that the blade weight is the only thing that it has to deal with when it deploys so if you do happen to deploy it onto your hand or something, you may get a little prick and that's it. It by no means has the power to deploy and stab you.

As sub 100 dollar D/A OTF knives go, this one seems to be pretty good.
