The Shining/Book Piracy thread
The Shining/Book Piracy thread
So I recently got into book piracy, and as a first book to pirate just to test the waters I broke out one of my favorites 'The Shining' by Stephan King. The book has so much more build up and backstory than the movie it's incredible. I forgot how great of a book it really is, and King really sets a good pace.
As for how I got it on the Kindle: I downloaded the epub format from b-ok.cc, and used a program called Calibre to convert it to mobi and push it to the device. Calibre supports a wide range of devices and I highly recommend it if you're into book piracy.

When I worked at my old job I worked alone the whole day. No one bothered me so I got a pair of those dog collar head phones and listened to audio books all day. You can find a bunch for free on youtube.
Re: The Shining/Book Piracy thread
I wish I had a job where I could just listen to things all day again. I don't really care for audiobooks I guess, I find it too hard to stay engaged in the story.

I was basically a janitor so I could just go on auto pilot. I chewed through so many books/podcasts/ect.
Re: The Shining/Book Piracy thread
Idk how it is in your area, but around here janitors make bank, they just don't get shit for hours, but if you can line up 2 or 3 cleaning jobs in a night you could walk away making a good chunk of change.
Just as an example one grocery store paid like $45/hr to have it clean within 2 hours 3 nights a week, and their sister store that was a little smaller paid $40/hr under the same conditions, so if you lined them both up for the same night and picked up a smaller gig for the off nights you could really be doing okay.

Re: The Shining/Book Piracy thread
So I'm most of the way through the book, and there's quite a bit I didn't remember from the last time I read it. I forgot Danny was only 5, I forgot that 3/4 of the book is build up to the iconic events of Jack going crazy, and I forgot what an abrupt change it really was for Jack. I remember the slow transition from the movie, but the actual book keeps you guessing the whole way through. I'm about to finish it tonight and hopefully start 'The Stand' next.

The Stand just drags on. I feel like it's longer than it should be, kinda like The Dark Tower series.
Re: The Shining/Book Piracy thread
I guess that's where we disagree, because I loved The Dark Tower series. Did you know he made another one?
Also, I found out that Dr Sleep is a Shining sequel, but it's a sequel for Danny I guess, not the Overlook which is disappointing.

Yeah I read that one a long time ago, I can't remember the name to it though.
Dr. Sleep has the Overlook in it for a bit. I actually liked the movie a lot.
Re: The Shining/Book Piracy thread
It's like "Wind through the Keyhole" or something.
I'm actually starting Dr Sleep after work today and plan on making a thread about it. I read the teaser chapters at the end of The Shining and it actually doesn't sound as stupid as I originally thought.

Re: The Shining/Book Piracy thread
That's right, wind through the keyhole. I always thought King fucked up by not rewriting the entire DT series where Roland picked up the horn of Eld.
Re: The Shining/Book Piracy thread
Yeah, that was kind of a mind-fuck of an ending to the journey. I always wished he'd done more back story books like 'Wizard and Glass'
