Not bad, you just have to get them while they're young.

Gills: polypore
Smell: supposedly smells like melon rind. I thought it smelled like a sort of meal that you feed birds
Habitat: North America. Grows on dead hardwoods.
Look: Resembles a pheasant tail. Also called dryads saddle. They grow quite large.

Sautee them in butter. Some people cut the pores off but I rather like the crunch they offer along with the chewy other side of the mushroom. And on the off chance I fucked up the identification and I'm dead by tomorrow, God speed you wonderful bastards. Information was meant to be free.
