So I had the opportunity to clean the carpets in a couple of the bedrooms before I started moving shit in and here's what I've found:
Kirby:
- Just soaks the fuck out of the carpet because it doesn't actually vacuum the water back up
- Constantly needs refilling because it only holds 1 quart of water
- Does a shitty job
- Gets clumps of dust all over because of the way it's designed
Bissel:
- Vacuums ALL the water it uses back into a tank so the carpets are merely damp
- Has a 1 gallon water tank IN ADDITION to the 1/2 quart soap tank
- Heats the water as it cleans so the floors dry faster and get cleaner
- Is designed to be a carpet cleaner so it does a good job
Of course, the one I used is for kids/pets, but I used the same soap in both machines so it shouldn't have been an issue. All in all, the bissel unit cleans circles around the POS Kirby, but as a vacuum the Kirby is tops blooby

Re: Carpet scrubbers: Kirby vs Bissel
I just kicked over my roommates drink last night and we used a hand held bissel. They work great in my opinion.
Re: Carpet scrubbers: Kirby vs Bissel
I should get a handheld unit having kids and all. I'd be happy just being able to do the carpets once every 6 months or so though.

carpet shampooers keep me with plenty of work, carpet and pad can last welll past 50 years if taken care of. most people now adays atleast get new pad every few years. unless their elderly.
