Fuck were they ever right about that. Had my first (and second) mead two days ago, then went and got more of the first yesterday. Dansk Mjød, Viking Blod, is the one I would recommend of the two (hence why I bought it twice). It is a Danish mead based off a recipe from the 1700s. The other was a Baltimore brand called Charm City, Elderberry flavor. Charm City's was tart & dry with no hint of honey or the thick feeling of it. Viking Blod, though? Stronger, richer, deeper flavor. Even if you take a sip that feels like it's about to kick you in your pants the feeling of the honey immediately follows, so it basically has a built in chaser.

And it's instantly become my favorite drink. So delicious, alcoholic enough to have a good time (19%) and not get fucking BLITZED like a retarded frat boy trying to black out 30 minutes into the night.

Why in the ever loving fuck is mead not more popular?! The Scandinavians had it right...hundreds of years ago. Like, they won. They perfected alcohol. If you like good things, treat yourself to a bottle. If you only enjoy stuff so shitty you hate yourself after every drink, idk what to tell you.

Not that I've read. Scurvy is a vitamin C deficiency anyway.

I would assume that mead is just a niche drink. The recipe that I'm going to make soon requires 18lbs of honey to do 12 gallons. That shit is expensive. Grape slurry concentrate would be much cheaper to make, least from the prices I've seen. Mead is also very different from most other drinks in terms of flavor.

You can make a gallon of mead with about a pound and a half of honey. Go head and try it.

I definitely wanna try making my own mead some time, that would be cool. Might even try to bottle & sell some mead if it's pretty good.

Finally got off my ass and made some mead. I can post the recipe if anyone is interested.

The jugs are the most expensive and worrying part. They're already heavy and glass, trying ot shake or stir the mix is pretty difficult considering how heavy it is.

This is an easier fix for it. You can pretty much use any fish tank air stone as long as you don't pull it from your tank first. You don't want fish shit and algae floating in your wine.

Seems like a pain in the ass to get into the bottle

Probably. Theres a sucker born every minute.

Nearly finished bottling that mead. Nearly 50, 750ml bottles of the stuff. It was a big job, but in the end I saved a lot of money by doing it myself.
