I began thinking of what some people call the 6th sense and what it is. Most people consider this something akin to telepathy or empathy, but I don't know if that's the case. The 6th sense is something that is developed outside of the normal senses to make it seem like there is something new/extraordinary there. The magical/metaphysical aspect of this seems largely like nonsense to me until I started thinking about general abilities that people have and why they have them. For example, watching a professional athlete doing what he does best seems like magic to us. How did he make that shot? How did he react so quickly? There's no way I could do that, ect ect ect. I began to dig further into this line of thought and my conclusion has come with this, you can develop a 6th sense.
When I was in college, I was in a class that I can't quite remember what it was, but the professor said that human beings are really bad at multi tasking and that it's better to concentrate on one thing at a time. She proved this by having us do a simple exercise like patting yourself on the head and rubbing your stomach with the other hand at the same time. Hard to do right? According to her, the human brain isn't good at doing two different things at once. This never sat right with me as humans do multiple things at once all the time. Then why the contradiction between the exercise and what I've seen? The answer is practice.
She was right in one thing, the human brain is bad at doing multiple things at once... That is until it succeeds in making the act of doing multiple things at once into one solid act. This is where the 6th sense is developed. Playing an instrument, driving, martial arts. All these things are many actions done at one time to make it seem like magic to the person who hasn't practiced enough. Then you have the people who have a natural affinity to that type of action and it looks even more like mystics.
In conclusion, the 6th sense is nothing but the human mind honing a razors edge into multiple actions.
