Do as I say, not as I do
Who said this famous saying?
I am 95% sure it was spoken by a French monarch however I couldn't find any info in google...
Thanks in advance.

It sounds like something I'd expect from Rene Descartes, but I honestly don't know.

Re: Do as I say, not as I do
well i looked it up, and its none other than, english polymoth john selden. i don't know about you guys, but i've heard many people misuse the saying thinking it means "behave yourself" but its true meaning is soemthing like (and imo rather sarcastic) "dont imitate my behaviour but obey my instruction" it first appared int 1654 in john seldens "table talk" , funnily enough he was refering to clergy.
u gotta love google...

Pretty much every parent's way of raising kids. It must be a universal thing. They hit you and overpower you so that you will respect power and authority, not real virtue. Then they instill unrealistic values on you and hit and degrade you whenever you don't live up to them, all the while you cannot point out any of their hypocrisies or flaws. No, they have it all figured out. They know just how to fix all the flaws in their life with you

That sounds disturbingly... close to my situation. .
It appears to have good values behind it, like don't make my mistakes, just listen to my rants on how to avoid them... but to often it works the other way, because there are too many dipshits that know nothing about virtues or errors and will only fuck you up. Like parents.

Re: Do as I say, not as I do
I cant believe any particular person is credited with actually saying this. I thought it was more of a criticism of sorts.
