Default Wireless stuff

Hey, I was wondering if y'all could help me.
I'm buying a laptop and there are options to buy a wireless network card (such as this one: Netgear WG511T Super G 108Mbps PCMCIA PC Card), and a wireless access point (such as Netgear WGT624 Super G 108Mbps Cable Router) . What i need to know is what the difference between the two is and what they are used for/ could be useful for.

Thanks...

And just as a side issue, which would you recommend: Vista Ultimate or XP?

A wireless access point is what plugs into your existing wired network. It "converts", for want of a better word, the wired network so it is able to talk to wireless devices.

The card goes into your laptop - if you don't have a wireless network already, you will need both. Almost all new laptops have built in wireless so I doubt you will need to buy the card.
