Default Al Gore's Energy Use

Al Gore is a hypocrite because he preaches to all who will listen to start drastically reducing their energy use or the world will come to a crashing end, while he is personally consuming at a rate of many multiples that of the typical American family.

You can find all this information by simply doing a Google search 'Al Gore energy use'.

Negative Press:

"Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year"
http://www.nationalcenter.org/Z02270...nergy-use.html

"In the Washington, D.C., area, utility companies offer wind energy as an alternative to traditional energy. ... Utility customers must simply pay a few extra pennies per kilowatt hour, and they can continue living their carbon-neutral lifestyles ... But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences"
http://autos.aol.com/article/general...14100109990001

"Gore receives $20,000 a year in royalties from Pasminco Zinc, which operates a zinc concession on his property. Tennessee has cited the company for adding large quantities of barium, iron and zinc to the nearby Caney Fork River"
http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion...re-green_x.htm

Positive Press:

I did find this video, that suggests the information gathered has been skewed. Note this is only talking about one of his homes.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/0...cord-straight/

This does not address his consumption from his other homes, or on his profiting by allowing zinc mining on his property that has been showed to have severally polluted the surrounding environment.

Here is another website takes a kinder look at his energy usage.

"Why can't conservatives argue THE ISSUE of global warming, rather than this crap"

I think it is fair to check if a man's actions match what he says.

"His car today is an SUV, but it's also a hybrid"

First point, his car does not need to be an SUV. Second point, hybrids have been shown to actually have a larger ecological footprint on the environment, because of the devastating environmental effect of having to create the electric battery. Third point, by far the best thing for anyone who is concerned with the environment can do is to by a used car, simply because then a new car does not have to be produced.

So I ask you all whats your opinion, on Al Gore's energy usage? Please note if your post anything that even slightly diverges from the line of "I hate Al Gore, because he is a hypocrite" you had better have a strong argument behind it.

I'll just put these out there

"Gore receives $20,000 a year in royalties from Pasminco Zinc, which operates a zinc concession on his property. Tennessee has cited the company for adding large quantities of barium, iron and zinc to the nearby Caney Fork River"

- What's that got to do with his energy use? It's impacting on an aquatic environment not burning bucketloads of fossil fuels.

- It speaks of 'typical' American family when alleging he is a over consumer of energy. It then goes on to say how records suggest he hasn't signed up for green energy - How many 'typical' American families have?

Al gore uses 100% green power (atleast he claims to), among other things to minimize his impact. Plus, he does a lot of other shit than just live in his home.

who really cares about al gore. americans seem to love reducing an issue down to the people who belive in it. it doesn't matter if al gore stomps on baby kittens and burns down orphanages, global warming is still a problem and energy use must be contained.

if he doesn't do it himself it doesn't make the issue any less important. it just means that he is, as you said, a hypocrite. but al gores personality traits have sweet fuck all to do with global warming, power consumption and greenhouse gasses.

sadly though, many americans look at gore, say "he is using too much power" and ignore the entire issue of greenhouse emmisions, because they are fucking stupid and can't seperate out personalities from politics.

No he doesn't. He's on the same power grid as everyone else in Tennessee. What he does is "buy" "carbon credits" which amounts to nothing more than shuffling around a couple papers within a corporate office in London that he happens to own. So basically he transfers money between a couple of his bank accounts and calls it green. We've been over this before.

You may have a point (you don't), but we're not going to listen to a hypocrite. And it just so happens that the biggest proponent of "global warming" in the United States is Al Gore. So it's easy to dismiss the entire "global warming" apparatus as a socialist ploy (which it is).

Don't bite my head off because I geniunely want to know - A ploy to do what exactly? I have no idea about American politics, or my own Countries for that matter (I voted for John Howard...is that a shocker? The 4 eyed equivalent to Bush, a 'liberal' under our system - why did I bother voting when I dunno what's going on? Because it's the law) but is he running for pres again or trying to his equivalent in? Is he trying to make money through carbon credit business which you say he is involved in? Both? Something else?

I have to agree Al Gore is irritating as all hell, and if you haven't seen the 'man bear pig' episode of South Park, that you should get onto that.

To place greater control over industry in the hands of the government. To place greater control over the economic activities of the individual in the hands of the government. To remove our freedom of choice.

Al Gore is a Democrat (read: socialist) and pushing the global warming theory down everyone's throat plays right into the things that they are trying to do to this country.

See if you'd open your eyes and shut your trap you'd realise we (to an extent) have similiar stances.

What happens here is our air quality laws are strict, if you want to recycle say a refridgerator here for the metal you have to bust it apart to remove all the non-metal components...say why not ship it to China where they melt it no matter how much plastic and shit you have to burn...cause the their air is so different to ours you know.

But I'd prefer a balance, which is what I set out to do in my own work. None of the extremes to the spectrum that seem to exist. I'd rather have a government controlling industry then industry controlling an appointed government. A government in power is elected, an industry wanting to write its own rules is not. But I'd much rather progress which takes us back to my balance theory.

And as for freedom of choice it has its boundaries too, if someone smokes next to me I didn't exactly chose to have their smoke in my air space but it happens. But I hate all those protesters that won't allow things like mills in their community saying dumb tired shit like "not im my backyard" so it's a pain in the ass trying to please everyone.

You could always do the American thing and just remain uneducated and act like everything else in the world is ok. if you need help doing so just please divert your undivided attention from the world news to Paris Hilton's jail sentence. (she was released btw)
