Where could I find a laptop or be able to build a custom laptop for under £1400...thats like just over €2000 or nearly $2800 with at least the following specs:

4gb of ram
512mb video and a good solid duo core processor, 2.2ghz+ if possible.

some rather cheap but very expandable small-sized laptops can be found on alienware.com

I am not sure if they ship to Ireland, seeing that it was not on their list makes me question, but good luck, I made a laptop with those specs for under $3000US

You only really need more than 2gb of RAM if you're running a web/file server. Why on earth would you need 4gb?

I guess you've tried Dell?

Dell do not "suck balls" - please don't assume that. My Latitude has been heavily used/dropped/trodden on and its only battle scars are metal showing through on the painted lid. Compare their prices and you'll see the prices really aren't too bad.

I advise you not to buy from a "custom" manufacturer as support and parts are a complete nightmare. The ones I've seen also have horrible build quality compared to the big name manufacturers. But there still might be some good ones out there.

Again, why do you want 4gb of RAM?
