Is feel good music near dead?

Srsly, all these new bands are just trying for this really serious tone in their music. Rap is largely ego music, extroverted culture music (think someone blasting it in their car on a friday night, think the lyrics). I'm not attacking rap, I'm just saying most of it doesn't even come close to feel good.

Srsly I listen too all sorts of 80's music (and I enjoy it) because of the way music is going these days. I also love movie sound tracks, some of the best emotional music out there has been on movie sound tracks.

Where has feel good music gone?

Yeah, but there's still power pop (Teenage Fanclub, the Posies, Matthew Sweet), twee (Shonen Knife, All Girl Summer Fun Band), old-style pop-punk (Sneaky Pinks, Clorox Girls, The Marked Men), '50s/'60s revivalist "garage" rock n roll (The Reigning Sound, King Khan & BBQ, The Buff Medways, various bands from Montreal/Memphis/Chicago/Detroit), the shit they play in clubs (do I even need to give recommendations here?) which is probably scientifically engineered to release serotonin & various date rape chemicals, the escapist mellow feelgood shit that all the jam bands play (and how many jam bands are there today?), neo-soul, hyphy, Andre Williams (he deserves his own genre just for surviving this long), crazy neo-psychedelia like that being produced by Greg Ashley/The Gris Gris, not to mention numerous other artists and genres that can't be easily classified and I'm going to end this sentence now.

'80s music, though? That's gotta be one of the least feelgood musical decades I can think of, overall. But hey, you might be interested in the latest album by The Go...Howl on the Haunted Beat You Ride. (Not to be confused with the shitty indie band The Go! Team.) Influenced by the Beatles, MC5, other stuff from that era. Some people write them off as "stuck in the '60s" and yeah it's pretty derivative, but it rocks and it's definitely feelgood summer music for the most part. The only downer on the album is a cover of a poem by Allen Ginsberg ("Refrain").

As for hip-hop there's plenty of feelgood shit that you don't know about, but I get the feeling you're strictly a rocker so I won't waste my time w/ recs in that area. By the way, what's wrong with "extroverted culture" and the music it produces? You could make the same argument for most happy feelgood rock-based music, really -- songs about people, love, summer, fun, etc. "Ego music"...what isn't? The Gerogerigegege?

I don't understand why but Lily Allens 'LDN' makes me disgusted with humanity yet happy at the same time. It might be because it is her, because she's right, other things...It's how you see things.

Yeah, Roger Waters is just a fucking ray of sunshine. Especially on The Wall and Animals. I just feel so perky and shiny when I hear about the greed/corruption/mindlessness of humanity, and gentle souls utterly broken by society.
