How do you support an artist without buying their CD?
So, let's say I'm a cheap ass and prefer to purchase used CDs online for a much cheaper price. However, I would like to support the artists I listen to, but I don't want to help fund assholes like the RIAA or at least I want the majority of money to go to the artist and not some middle man.
I know buying concert tickets and/or merchandise is supposed to help, but what if it is some obscure band that only goes on tour or performs in another part of the world? The only way I can really support them is to buy their CD or whatever, but do they actually get much of that profit?
How do you guys support your favorite artists?

well, if you're in any discussions where they'd seem to fit, give them a mention.
Im sure (or at least I hope) the band will appreciate a few more fans. regardless of their fame and fortune.
I usually supports them by going to shows. Luckily, the bands I dig tour a fair amount.

Re: How do you support an artist without buying their CD?
Here's a direct way to show your support - send them a check.
Seriously, find one of the members or their manager's information, and write them a check and a letter. Explain to them that you didn't buy their cd because of the reason you gave us, and that you would rather support them directly.
Then again, they might just go buy a few cases of beer with your money... but you're still supporting them!

Re: How do you support an artist without buying their CD?
some of the bands i listen to make their own cd's. so, buying them does directly support 'em.
past that, go to shows, buy shirts, tell someone else to buy you the cd.
or, listen to wraith. get your favorite band trashed!!

See if their website (or the personal website of a band member) sells the cd direct. I know Anal Cunt do this, ya send 'em the money and what ya want and they'll mail it back to ya.

The cheque idea is good.
I love all the stuff I listen to, I support them and I see them in shows, and download the music off bitcomet, still supporting them by being a fan??
