Humans are NOT "top of the food chain"
This is just some bullshit i thought up, but it makes sense. Think about it, many animals can work in pack more efficiently than us. Sure we are far more intelligent, but most people won even kill an animal, prepare it and eat it. Some won't even choose the live animal they eat. Some don't even eat meat. Sure we have guns and technology, but what if we had no guns, or modern technology. 21st century humans would die, straight out. Thought opinions? *prepares for flaming*

Re: Humans are NOT "top 'o' the food chain"
I agree with you... in a sense, we have become dependent on technology, you could say that without it we'd be nothing more than hairless apes

How do you think humans got to the top? We still have basic survival instincts. In the event that all guns and technology magically disappeared we would still survive. Sure, the vegetarians would have to adjust or they would die.
You underestimate humans, even the dumbest of us can make fire and sharp pointy sticks to stab animals with.It wouldn't necessarily be easy, but we would adjust.

Yes but it could take a while. Especially since obesity is a major problem in some countries, and most people can't run so fast as to catch an animal and stab it. Sure people who are good with the javelin could get some, but what about the people who literally depend on technology like disabled people. Wave bye-bye to Steven Hawkins. Yes we used our primal instincts to get to the top, but we have los touch with these awesome instincts.

Re: Humans are NOT "top 'o' the food chain"
We are the only animals who figured out agriculture. We would not die.
This argument is dependent upon the limitations of the model of the food chain. If you take away our technology then you have to remove bird's talons. Because as they would regrow their talons, we would rebuild our technology.
The disabled people would die of course, just like if a wild animal breaks its leg it's dead for sure. But one human /= human race

Not true. Certain ants practice agriculture on fungus. And their combined biomass is much more than ours. You could argue that other animals practice agriculture as well, considering the role of their digestive systems in certain plants reproductive cycles. It's not conscious or directed agriculture, but it's essentially the same thing.
I don't see the point in evaluating us minus our technology. We have a relationship with it that isn't likely to end. Every organism out there would die in a significantly altered environment.

Re: Humans are NOT "top 'o' the food chain"
its because the society we live in makes us go against evolution. we are keeping every kind of person alive, even those unfit for normal survival.
so if the only humans in the world were the survivors (just as all non human organisms are survivors today) ie. all the pussies/vegetarians/pacifists died, then humans, with our evolutionary advantages (our brains) could defeat every other animal on the planet
