For my A-level History course we have to start thinking about our individual assignment basically you make up your own question about any topic and do an essay on it in controlled conditions after an extended period of research of course.

I was just wondering what you guys would choose? Preferably something which hasn't been over done e.g. Vietnam or WW2.

Early - mid nineties. Russia - eastern Europe. Shit was straight up exploding w/ organized crime. After the USSR dissolved and Russia opened up it's controlled economy and its borders, shit was like a shark feeding frenzy.

That's what I would do... or actually it's what I did for my paper, heh.

Don't do wars where the US was involved; that's ghey and you'll have people grading your paper that actually know what happened. Do you think the graders know about the Rhodesian Bush War? They'll just get on Wikipedia and read barely enough to grade your paper while you can essentially read the wiki, a few encyclopedias, and bullshit the rest. It teaches you a lot about historical patterns too.

And if not... revolutions are fun. French, Russian, Cuban?

If it were me, I'd probly choose Russian, because I know ass-loads about Russia from the Decembrists, to the end of the Civil War.

However if it weren't for this bias, the Cuban revolution is interesting as hell. I'd say, Cuba from the 20's to the 60's. This will allow you to cover Mafia run Havana all the way to the Bay of Pigs or even the Cuban missle crisis, and everything that happened in between.
