Darfur
There has been a Genocide going on there for the last 5 years. Systematic rape, torture and murder. The ICC released an indictment of President Bashir but it doesn't look as if troops will be going in to arrest him any time soon.
Why does nobody care? This situation is absolutely deplorable and the weak show of U.N. 'peacekeepers' do not have a mandate that will allow them to get involved in stopping the violence to the extent that it is needed.
People don't even pay attention to this but everybody knows it's happening and it's absolutely awful.
Thoughts?

Re: Darfur
It's because the United States is currently tied down in the Middle East, as is Canada, and no other country has the guts to go in and do anything....they're all waiting on the "UN" to do something.

Re: Darfur
Why do we as people not do anything though? Are we powerless? I like to think that if I saw a woman being raped in an alley as I walked by I would try and do something to help - but in the international community this doesn't happen. We KNOW this horrible, god-awful stuff is happening in Darfur but it obviously isn't important to anybody.
Even I don't go out of my way to do anything about it. Really we should all be protesting to try and get action in this situation immediately...but I don't think we will...
What does this say about us as humans...

Re: Darfur E Peoples
They are not children, we have little interest in their territory and they seem to be doing just fine at the moment.

So it doesn't bother you that it's happening at all? You feel no empathy towards these people? Just because it's not a strategic benefit for us to help them we shouldn't help them?

Re: Darfur
Why don't people have faith in the UN? They'll get a handle on this by at least 2033. It's a process, let the process work...

Re: Darfur
Please explain to me why this is awful or why should I care?
I'm not racist or anything I'm just apathetic towards the human condition...So feel free to enlighten me as to why I should care that people are dying prematurely? Honestly, why delay the inevitable if all you're going to have is a terrible life of suffering.
And besides, if you want to end suffering why don't you just kill all of them, there's no suffering in death.

So I presume your one of those angst filled anti-human humanists.
If you are legitimately the type of person who would not care if you saw a woman or child being beaten down in the street or raped than I guess your just a terrible person. I don't want to have a philosophical argument about the human condition - I think everybody knows that when other people get tortured or raped or beaten to death it isn't a GOOD thing.
You should care because even if you live in a shithole inner city public housing project and deal with gangs and crime daily - there are still millions of people who would pray every night and day to switch places with you. Stop trying to be so aloof you fuck - this is happening to people while we are discussing it here on the internet
