Your thoughts on the Aboriginal Issue

First of all this is NOT suggesting a holocaust style solution.

Has anyone noticed that more and more Australians are just getting pissed of at the Abos. In the 80s we had a massive "we are evil aggressors" thing but now its starting to reverse. I think this is due to all the efforts the Government is going to too help them. The average Aussie is getting pissed off that all his taxpayer money (roughly 30 000 each last year) for is going to people who spend it on booze and petrol instead of proper accommodation or education. Also the legal system sympathies and allows any abo to get off on a lighter sentence "because of his/her background" this is bullshit because many of these guys are repeat offenders of assualt, theft and vandalism and anyone who brings these facts up is labelled a racist. I reckon the Government should take a hard line and force the abo community to start taking some personally responsibility for its state and stop blaming something that happened 220 years ago.

Does any1 else see this problem (in Australia or other versions of it in your country)

Well, I wouldnt be suprised if it did turn into a holocaust; given the generally "tolerant" nature of Australian society.

Minorities are usually poor or in a bad state because either the government allows it or society forces it. While I think the government should encourage a degree of self-determination they can't throw them to the wolves either. I don't pay attention a whole lot to the situation but some of the provisions I think are justified; like the seperate courts for example.
The Government should try and rectify some of the damages but the Aborigionals need to accept the situation and adapt to an extent as well.

The only group of people here that are almost universally disliked up here are the natives, mostly for the same reasons as the Australians are annoyed with the abos. I think that if people really want integration, you can't have government treating them as different and giving them handouts; because if you do, the others will resent them.

I don't think Kevin Rudd should have appologised, because the current generation of Aboriginals do not deserve it. They want equal rights and shit so the government gives them the right to access medicare, centre link, housing commition etc and they wanted an appology?. I can garentee if you walked into Redfern or other densely Aboriginal populated areas and asked them what the stolen generation was, more than half wouldn't be able to tell you. John Howard done the right thing, he acknowledge that there was a wrong doing in the past but did not appologise to the current generation.

I'm sure if it were up to the Aboriginals to decide whether they wanted to have Australia as it was a long time ago, uncivilised, no health care etc OR what it is today, they would pick what it is today so I think they should just take the appology, build a bridge and move on.

I've known a few who's gotten their head and their ass wired together (they are currently successful business owners not receiving any benefits from the .gov).

I think it's time the government cut the umbilical cord. The free money and houses (which normally get ripped up and turned into fire) has got to stop, it's a waste. It is reasonable to expect a good return on your investment, and the government sure isn't getting that.

How can you have sympathy for a special interest group that receives so many breaks?
