If technology allowed it
Would you have a problem with every humans mind being scanned & copied to a database. The computer would then use the combined knowledge to figure shit out. What exactly, I don't know. But I believe this is the only direction we humans can take. Sometime, whether its now, 100 years, 10,000 years in the future we must created something more than us. It will be done through science, not superstition, myths, religion.

Re: If technology allowed it
There are already computer databases with more data than any human mind can ever store, not that they can do anything exciting with it though.
Humans will never be able to replicate God's work in creating life or intelligence, it's a lose cause.

AI should come around within the next 100 years. A AI machine with that database and ability to create would forward the human race astronomically.

Now, by "God's work," do you mean evolution? you fucking moron.
Computers may not be capable of thinking like humans considering that humans use non-representational memory, while computers use representational memory.

Might as well hook them up to machines like in the Matrix.

Re: If technology allowed it
Even if you could scan and copy every humans brain how would you deal with people being mostly retarded? The brains would all try to kill each other, and conflicting information would slow shit down allot (all the morons who are wrong but will fight to the death for something they half overheard in a bar), and some information is based conflicting information(IE: god exists>god loves you>pray for soul = gods fake>you reproduce>fight for you genome). Some people minds can overcome confliction and happily take in paradoxes, but other are brittle and can hold only one truth.

ROFL
That is the problem. So many people have heads full of bullshit.
Why do you think a computer could sort it out?

How could AI not be self-aware.
The computers are just symbol manipulating machines. They manipulate the symbols according to programs. People have to decide upon and program the manipulations. Once that is done computers can do it faster than people but they still don't understand the symbols.
Do the computers care whether they win or lose a chess game?
We are just making faster von Neumann machines. AI is fantasy.
