Understanding conflict theory.

In my sociology class we are learning about a variety of things. But I have to write a paper on examples of how nation-states use war as an extension of state policy, with a conflict theory lens on.

So my question is, do any of you guys have a basic understand of conflict theory in regards of war? I've been studying
it, but it all seems to be pertaining to internal class conflict

The best example I can think of for your paper would be Marxism and the Russian revolution. Or Mao and the cultural revolution. Or are these too obvious?

You need to have a very thorough understanding of Marx. That much I know.

Are you talking about how War is used as a method of social control like globalization? For example how the United States overthrew the Democratically elected Mossadeq of Iran in the 50s because he promised to use Oil to benefit his people, in response we overthrew him and installed the Shah, a dictator who promised to sell cheap oil to us in return....

I mean isn't globalization the epitome of the conflict theory/war relationship? State sponsored oppression to keep others in their place to further exploit them???
