WW2 movies from the other side
Does anyone know of any decent world war 2 movies from the point of view of the Germans or the Japanese? I need something new, tired of seeing the same old war movies about how evil the Nazis were.
Actually, as an alternative, does anyone know of any war movies set in WW1?

Re: WW2 movies from the other side
"Stalingrad" is from the German point of view I think (and is pretty good).
I'll add any more if I remember - seem to recall one set in WWI trenches with Germans.
Edit: What about the recent Clint Eastwood one? He did Flags of our Fathers from the US side and one from the Jap side didn't he?
Also - the Nazis were pretty evil, no? It's not just propaganda like the US making out they won the war singlehandedly in most Hollywood etc. stuff. Maybe not at footsoldier level so much but certainly the government as a whole was "evil".

^ Probably. Unfortunately I don't think either of the two major movies based on the novel have done good justice to the book, awesome though the first one may be.
OP - check out the anime Grave of the Fireflies.

Re: WW2 movies from the other side
you should really check out Der Untergang (sp?), it's about Hitler's final days in his bunker as the Russians closed in. Not too much pew-pew but it's fantastically well done.
Also check out Das Boot, about German submariners.
and Letters from Iwo Jima.

Fucking Christ how did I forget about this one. I remember reading about the making of that film, apparently they kept the actors in confined, lightless headquarters for a good while to make sure they looked authentic.

Re: WW2 movies from the other side
Now that I think about it OP should also check out Enemy at the Gates, about a Russian vs. German sniper duel at the battle of Leningrad.

Yeah I've seen that one, Thanks for all the replies.
I remember seeing a movie a while ago about some nazi soldier that was taken into a POW camp, I can't remember the name, anybody know what movie I'm talking about?
