A few big problems with that "good deeds" trip. Who defines what is good? In Nazi Germany, it was a good deed to turn your Jewish neighbor in to the Gestapo. To the Inquisition, it was a "good deed" to torture a heretic to death in order to save his or her soul. Righteousness all too quickly and easily slips into self-righteousness. I will say this--if you want to change the world, change yourself.
To me and those others who espouse the Perennial Philosophy, the main goal and end of life is to achieve unitive knowledge of the Divine Ground of existence. No doing of good deeds is required--just purity of heart and poverty of spirit.
Someday you will realize that your soul is not about doing--it is about being. Given that life is eternal, what one does or does not do in any single lifetime is of little consequence in the long run.
